Id like to think that Arthur Treacher, Mervs old partner and friend (who died in 75) turned to the crowd upstairs and said And heres the dear boy himself, Merv!
Goodness, that brought a tear to my eye. I remember Treacher talking about how many young men from his village had been killed in WWI. I'm not sure of my memory, but it could be that he was the only one who survived the war. I guess I'm getting old if I remember Arthur Treacher and Merv Griffen together...
No, you're not getting old my FRiend, I remember them together too and they were every bit as entertaining (perhaps more so) than the more famed team of Carson and McMahon.
I remember when Arthur Treacher joined the celebrities of the day by lending his name to a fish and chips franchise (who could forget Arthur Treacher's F&C?), and I remember him saying that he wouldn't let them use his name on anything that he wasn't willing to eat at his own table. A truly class act, just like Merv.

I’m 53, and I watched Treacher and Griffin when I was a kid. My parents loved the show, too!

I feel another loss of that innocence of a childhood gone by. I would be allowed to stay up late by Mommma to watch Merv’s show. Always funny and classy.
Why must we lose this wonderful legacy to a horde of Leftists who are taught that it’s hip to hate?

I don't think you will ever find real concrete proof, but it was pretty well known by insiders.
Deney Terrio, the host of "Dance Fever" sued Griffin for sexual harassment, however, the case was thrown out by the judge. The case was sealed and removed from public record.

We're of nearly identical vintage FRiend, I'd bet that Arthur is serving up something for Merv from this very selection tonight, lol:

The Other is an excellent book. I also liked Harvest Home by the same author.....creepy and terrifying.

Now it’s gone. Waaah!

Merv's death came a year and change after Mike Douglas's.
Mike (on Ch. 3), Merv (on Ch. 6), and Dinah Shore (on Ch. 10) were opposite each other on Philadelphia television in the second half of the '70s (my HS years). Now they are all together again. RIP Merv, Mike, and Dinah. I look forward to meeting you someday.

I have read that one as well. I think I read all his books. Too bad he died so young.

Segio Franchi was at a friend’s house for the Italian Feast we have in my neighborhood back in 1978. He said the same about Merv.

Yeah, I've never given a second thought to looking something like this up.......so I cannot cite any definitive scholarly article that states Merv was gay.
Do you dispute it? Is this fact of concern to you? Why?
Seriously, ask any one of your gay friends, neighbors or co-workers. They will confirm.
I just called a freind of mine who is gay, he said, "Merv was as queer as a 3 dollar bill."
So there you go.

Was
Aurther Treacher and Mervy a couple in the past?
I watched this guy as a kid. He was entertaining. To think he was gay makes me kind of sick. He was ashamed of the fact he was gay I think. He needed help.

If Merv was gay I say ‘ho hum and thanks for being discrete!’ Merv never made entertainment cheap and for that I thank him.
To: massgopguy
Sergio Francchi may have known Merv’s preference but it wasn’t nice of him to blab.
