GOP Blogger Builds Power In Public Forum (Jon Fleischman's California Conservative Powerhouse Alert)

There's plenty of hand wringing in the press about why the state still doesn't have a budget six weeks into the fiscal year. But one member of the media is delighting in the standoff and playing an oversized role in keeping it going: a 39-year-old conservative blogger who spends hours of his workday in bed typing away on an aging Dell laptop, hundreds of miles from the Capitol.

Jon Fleischman has never aspired to be a reporter. "Fair and balanced" is decidedly not his thing.

"I don't pretend to be objective," the longtime GOP activist said last week in his modest tract home in Orange County, aka blog headquarters. "I operate under the premise that conservatives are right and liberals are wrong."

It is precisely that attitude that has made his nearly 2-year-old Web site, Flash Report, a powerful bully pulpit during the six-week budget impasse. Fleischman has used the blog to buck up the 14 Senate Republicans who are holding firm against the budget despite intense pressure to vote for it from their own GOP governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger, not to mention countless newspaper editorial boards and interest groups urging them to do their job.

"Once the budget is approved, you will all be relegated back to a very peripheral role as the Governor then re-engages with legislative Democrats on healthcare issues, and his international anti 'global warming' jihad," Fleischman wrote in one typical post to the minority senators, who have unique clout over the budget because it requires a two-thirds vote. "So do the right thing."

Well that sounds like a nice effort, but only two years? LOL

As for conservatism being right, yeah... and nobody out here has operating under that premise up until now?

One man has the entire MSM hamstrung. They don't have the clout they used to. In the old days, this would have been over in June. The New Media is reshaping who politicians pay attention to and that's a good thing.

Since the premise is true . . . he’s worth reading.

"Conservatives are right and liberals are wrong!" Woo hoo!

As I have pointed out on numerous occasions, Jon's site is partisan, not necessarily conservative.

Flash Report screens its participants to eliminate any potential embarrassment created because a conservative may logically complain about the current Republican administration. Jon himself can't come to attack the Austrian but has typically been reduced to gently suggesting alternatives to the current administration's posture.

The Flash Report is substantially Republican and only conservative if it suits the current needs of the California Republican Party. The site is a classic example of "when good men do nothing" with regard to the administration.

I don’t disagree, but it does strike me that the media could certainly raise a straw horse rather easily to slay later on, at a critical time. I don’t know this guy, and he may be great. On the other hand he could make some comment next year that would be attributable to ‘conservatives’ which could bite us on the posterior.
