ABC News' Sunlen Miller Reports: In an interview in August's edition of The Progressive magazine, Elizabeth Edwards, wife of former Senator John Edwards, D-N.C., takes candid shots at the other candidates battling for the Democratic nomination against her husband.
"The problem for me with the other candidates is I don't know what it is that drives them," she explained, "I should think the president has to be somebody who has that kind of vision outside themselves."
Mrs. Edwards praised her husband for apologizing for his vote in favor of the Iraq War, and questioned Senator Hillary Clinton's, D-N.Y., for not doing the same.
"She even, in the New Hampshire debate said, 'I made a mistake.' People are looking for a mea culpa from her. And when she buried a line like that –- I give her credit for saying that –- but when she buries that line... we're electing a leader of the free world, and just like the votes on this last funding bill, we're looking for a leader," Edwards contended.

What is it with the dems and their constant demands that people apologize? Don't they know these people apologizing for what they did, only for getting caught doing it or for being on the wrong side of the polls. The dems act like it's all a kindergarten playground: "I'm sorry I hit you in the eye" really means "Too bad the teacher was watching when I hit you in the eye."
But I think people know when they're being manipulated, and resent the hell out of someone making hay out of a terminal illness.

Let’s go back to last year, before the elections. Keith Ellison (DFL, muslim) was the endorsed candidate for the US House from Minnesota’s 5th district. It was revealed that he had a long, long string of unpaid parking tickets along with a handful of unpaid speeding tickets. His license had been revoked. He also failed to file candidacy documents on time along with paying the fees on time.
Enter.......Keith’s wife. No idea what her name is. She is sent out in front of the press to say that it’s all her fault. It was her job to take care of these kinds of things while Keith was doing the “work of the people” as a member of the MN legislature. She failed to pay the tickets, she failed to file the forms........
But, because she has MS, she sometimes forgot these things.
That was the one and only time we heard that Keith even HAS a wife. The whole fiasco was forgotten and anyone who DARED question her story was shamed into silence.
Keith used her, just like Edwards is using his wife.
Elizabeth Edwards is under the impression that she is untouchable because she is suffering from cancer. Sadly, she is right.
She is abusing that position by being an attack dog. Most people in her position would not take advantage in that way.
Eventually, she will wear out the patience of those she attacks. The other Democrats they will have to take her on directly, cancer and all. That is gonna be fun to watch!
In the mean time, I suggest they start sniping at Elizabeth Edwards’ husband (I think his name is “John”), and challenge him on why he needs to have his sick wife fighting his battles for him all the time. It will be a Herculean task, given his extremely rugged and manly nature, but by stressing the fact that John Edwards is constantly hiding behind the pink fluffy skirts of his wife, they may actually make him appear effeminate.
It just doesn’t seem possible, I know...
I wonder if Elizabeth Edwards will be castigated by the left for being racist...

If Elizabeth Edwards was not abusing her position and people's sympathy, I would agree with you. But she has chosen to be the untouchable attack dog. I will have no sympathy when she is finally slapped down.

You make a good point. Silky has to know that he's going nowhere. Of course, his asskissing will gain him naught. Hillary uses asskissers, she never rewards them. Silky is done. Apparently, nobody in the Edwards campaign has the stones to tell her to shut up. Her girly-man hubbie certainly doesn’t, and she’s probably above criticism by the peons, especially due to the illness.
Sorry, but I don't buy the illness scam. A normal woman suffering from terminal cancer would not leave her her small children in the charge of some daycare nanny in favor of using her claimed limited time to joust with her Silky Pony against the imagined attacks from the rabid, rabid Republicans while countering the failings and shortcomings of their Democrat rivals.

Edwards would have a hard time going negative on Hillary or Obama, or even Ann Coulter.. he could be seen as a misogynist neo-colonialist white man.
I’m going to be interested to see how this dynamic plays out over the coming years. The Dems have always put minorites on women on an untouchable pedestal, but always at the end of the day ran connected white men.
Absolutely plausible, and I'm glad I'm not the only one who suspected this....the way those two have been cozying up during the debates/primaries/whatever, it looks like they have been cahoots for a long time....they can't hide their relationship.
