The irony is the cage he’ll find himself in isn’t much bigger than the ones used at his kennel.
It only takes one out of the twelve, hung jury. end of case.
I just found the .pdf file of the indictment and, you’re correct, it does explicitly tie Vick to three or four events, and you referenced those in your comment above.
It’s worth noting that the majority of the events do not include Vick, or include him in an odd way. I was a bit surprised that, in many other paragraphs, the indictment language uses a very unclear passive voice is denoting who did what, or in other paragraphs omits Vick’s name but uses the others, or in others uses Vick’s name as one of the names in describing the collective enterprise, rather than describing his acts personally.
So — if we assume that the facts alleged are true, than Vick was more than an absentee landlord. We’ll have to see what kind of defense he can put up against the testimony of his buddies, who are being squeezed hard.
There is no comparision, in short, to the OJ case.
It only takes one out of the twelve, hung jury. end of case.
Thats true in all cases in trial by jury.
Outside of the ‘boilerplate’ there is no comparision between the two.
1) The dogs were purchased from other states.
2) The dogs travelled to other states to fight.
3) The dogs fought dogs from other states.
Doesn’t take much to get the Feds involved anymore.
Agreed on the abuse of the commerce clause though. It’s used way too much to allow the Feds to get involved in a states’ business.
Vick better hope his attorneys can somehow get the initial search thrown out, or he’s screwed.
Reminds me of when Bob Packwood was run out of the Senate for bad behavior. As they were pushing him out the door he should have yelled, Hey Teddy, at least I didnt KILL anyone
that is the damn truth!
Have you read the indictment?
The Feds alledgly place him at a few of the contests and have him actually placing the bets on his dogs.
This apparently is not a situation where he rented the house to his buddies who then decided to start a dog fighting operation.
Or at least that’s how the facts are, as presented, right now by the Feds.
You really need to read the indictment. Vick is named Fifty Two (52) times in it.
As Federal Indictments go, this one is unbelievably detailed in scope, and leaves nothing to the imagination.
I can’t stress strongly enough that you actually read it before casting doubt on ‘freepers’ friend.
Eric Holder, a former deputy attorney general retained by the league, is still gathering facts on Vick's alleged involvement in dogfighting, NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said Monday.
Jeez, those Clinton cronies end up everywhere! George Mitchell investigating roids for MLB, and this dimwit working for the NFL. I knew there was something wrong with pro sports!
I read it, today. Of 84 specific acts alleged. only 5 clearly and specifically allege that Vick personally did something -- paragraphs 9, 47, 53, 57, and 76.
Yes, his name is used many more times as you correctly point out, but per the indictment we don't really know what "sponsor", "rolled" and "tested" actually means with regard to Vick's actual and knowing participation -- because the indictment covers 4 people collectively.
When I draft something, one of the cardinal rules is "avoid passive voice" in order to remove confusion as to who is specifically doing what, but the passive voice is used alot in the indictment -- and that makes me suspicious.
Can you say RICO act? Mikey’s going away for quite some time. Just dump beff gravy on him, and turn some of his dogs lose on him, problem solved.
When the feds draft something, it results in a conviction rate over 94%.
Given your own personal experience, you should know this better than I.
I remember something from a few months or maybe a couple of years back. I think the case involved someone growing illegal plants in his backyard for his own personal use, and somehow it was federalized although there was no interstate ANYTHING and NO COMMERCE whatsoever. Haha.
There was some convoluted logic about what he was doing having a potential IMPACT ON actual interstate commerce.
The bitch set him up!
Whether or not he thought it was wrong he had to know it was illegal. That was the perspective I was looking at it from, that he knew it was wrong but as an NFL star is just so arrogant to think that it won’t matter.
The Jury was not all black.
If the prosecution had presented a decent case, we would have had at least a hung jury, and a retrial.
Blacks get convicted everyday with blacks in the jury.
The failure to bring the Clinton's to justice was due to the ineptness of the 'special prosecutor' who was too weak to deal with the Clinton's.
If they have the paper to prove that Vick was the money behind the operation, they will get a conviction.
His three buddies have seen what the Fed's have and have folded their cards.
If Vick wants to go the route that Tyson took, he will be facing some serious time.
We know that the Fed's are going to add an indictment to the one they have already.
As for tax evasion, are you telling me that no one from Virginia is ever convicted for that?
Gee, why does anyone in Virginia pay taxes then!
I would say no, but it is likely he would.
Maybe there are some lawyers out there that can say definitely.
LOL!!
