The Board of Supes and Mayor are embarking on an explosion of super highrise (and incredibly ugly) buildings that will drop jaws all over the country. These buildings will go down hard when the next serious quake hits -- and all impartial seismologists/geologists are agreed that it will. The permit process is thoroughly corrupt and approval of these developments is being rammed through the system without passage of the new earthquake building standards. None of these buildings will have the steel exoskeleton required to withstand such a quake.
At this point in time, it can't be stopped by a ballot measure or even by a recall effort. And nobody of any quality is willing to run against the thoroughly deranged but politically entrenched Mayor Newsome in the upcoming election. Already, City Hall is targetting every city bureaucrat who is not on board with the development plan. Hundreds of them will be sidelined through transfer, forced early retirement or termination.
But before any of this happens, the traffic congestion and parking shortage will meet and exceed critical mass.
IMO, this construction can only be stopped if the "Big One" hits SF now. That is what it would take to wake up the airheaded liberal voters in that city.
