He’ll get the female vote as soon as he starts talking health care.

I like Fred a lot as well, but I jsut don’t think he’s going to be able to cut it.

He’d make a better VP, less face time, less stress.

If the Presidential campaign was a beauty contest I would be a Mitt fan. But it’s not.

Gaining on Giuliani and tied with “superstar” Fred Thompson (who has likely peaked, by the way). Looking good.

Just one thought Johnny, ZZZZZZZZZZZZZ...

That’s a tad deeper than yawn, in case you wondered. ;-)

I like Mitt’s slogan “Work like crazy”. I’ve never seen anybody work harder this early in an election. The guy has unbelievable energy, all without coffee!

No, looks like the RINOs are the ones between a rock and a hard place, because they cannot win without conservatives' votes. They won't get them, either. The GOP had better wake up and smell the coffee -- we will not support their RINO candidates! Not in the primary and not in the November, 2008 Presidential election!

I'm starting to get the feeling that FR conservatives are quite different from mainstream conservatives. This observation is a compliment to FR conservatives, but a warning that FR conservatives appear to a small subset of the entire set of conservatives.

My evidence: Guiliani's #1 position South Carolina and Guiliani's and McCain's success generally in southern and midwestern states.

Are immigration and abortion not important to conservatives? If they are, why do Guiliani and McCain have any support at all? This seems to be proof that moderates, moderate-conservatives, or plain old republicans greatly outnumber true-conservatives in most states. Dangerous to assume that true conservatives will call all the shots. Power comes in numbers, not bravado.

This is very, very early pre-primary season. The negative ads showing Rudy, McCain and Romney for what they really are have not begun to be aired on TV.

Excellent points Sword. It will be a moderate republican that can pull enough votes away from the dems. Mitt proved he could do it in Mass, while at the same time governing in a much stricter conservative way than he campaigned on.

Actions speak louder than words, and Mitt is the man.

>>>>Looks like Conservatives are caught between a rock and a hard place. Our two viable candidates are RINOS. <<<

Or so-called conservatives can’t get behind a guy who isn’t afraid to call Jihadists what they are. Who isn’t afraid to attack Democrats. Who is actually capable on delivering a foreing policy speech on Iran. Who supports a fence. Who supports ending the right to citizenship when children are born in the US to illegal parents. Who vetoed spending bill after spending bill. Who has executive experience. Who has any clue what he is talking about regarding tort reform...

Yeah, what a horrible guy.

His name is Mitt Romney. But once, he changed his mind on abortion. And he performed the horrible crime of vetoing pro-abort laws sent to him by the Mass State Legislature and actually tried to *gasp* redefine life’s beginning at conception(!).

He must be burned at the stake...

>>>It doesn’t matter what he does nationally. If he fails to win in Southern States, he is toast. Just like Rudy.<<<

The southern states are going to go Republican in the general. It doesn’t matter who is running. This race will once again be won in the west and the midwest.

Not to mention that some blues states like California will be closer to being up for grabs. Mitt has the skill set to lightly tread in the soiled footsteps of Arnold.

It does matter. You are sadly mistaken if you think the South will vote for a candidate who embraces abortion, homosexual rights, or illegal border invaders. And they are smarter than the candidates give them credit for — they know when a candidate is lying. If the GOP runs a RINO, they deserve to lose. Period.

>>>You are sadly mistaken if you think the South will vote for a candidate who embraces abortion, homosexual rights, or illegal border invaders. <<<

The only candidate in this race who I have seen who comes close to that line of thinking is Giuliani.

Romney, Duncan Hunter, Tancredo, and Fred Thompson oppose all 3.

Huckabee opposes 2 of 3. Maybe he’s shifted his views some on illegal immigration.

Brownback seems to have shifted his views on illegal immigration some more in the right direction, but I don’t think he’s vialbe and would have to hear more from him on the subject.

But as you say, the south won’t vote for those values. That pretty much excludes us from voting for the Rats, doensn’t it?

Typing here in Tennessee...

Giuliani will not will the South if he is the nominee. Romney will not win the South because of his religion. Hunter and Tancredo have little chance of winning the nomination. McCain is a wacko and won’t last beyond the end of this year, since he is out of cash and has no staff left. The only viable GOP candidate is Fred Thompson.

You are sadly mistaken if you think mitt governed by any of those liberal principles you give him credit of doing. He sustained life at every opportunity he could, and fought tooth and nail against gay marriage.

Fess up, you are really stretching to find reasons to note vote fro him without disclosing the real issue... his faith. If you only knew how much his faith relishes and adheres to those family values, I think you would be surprised.

Aha, at least you fessed up. Thanks for being honest about the religion reason.
