I was shocked to see on the news we got 12” last night. I knew it was bad because the storm drain was backing up and over the curb heading for the house. If we get that Dean guy next week there will be big trouble. The computer models are all over the place as to where he’s headed. People are already planning for evacuation if necessary, particulary Galveston and the Port Lavaca area of south Texas. One fairly accurate model has it heading to New Orleans. But the rest have it headed to Brownsville which is the bottom point of Texas by Mexico.

As I left work today the sun was out but it was pouring buckets. We’re still on flood warning for tonight. I used to get bored with the weather in California but this is the complete opposite.

Are you going to can all the veggies? Sounds like all night cooking going on at your house. :)

Fences are a great thing.

That would not stop them with Harbor Tools selling bolt cutters for less than 10 bucks...

I had no idea all that was going on, not that I have time to keep up with it.

You still did not tell me what channel you are watching, "Days of our Lugnuts" or what? :)

I'm a Tony Stewart fan and heard about this a few years ago when Tony and his dad Nelson helped Ross get his INEX/Legend license when he was 12 so he could move up in his racing career. Honestly, at the time, I didn't make the connection that Matt was his dad.

That's a pretty damn important detail to "accidentally" leave out.

It is, and I apologize. The fact that Tony and Nelson were supporters of the kid, and the kid gave them credit all the time while not mentioning Matt, could easily lead some to believe that Tony was the father and felt obligated to help him out, when the court system up there had declared Matt as the father not too long after Ross was born.

Guess I should've paid a bit closer attention to the "Beyond the Glory" Kenseth episode; I would've caught more of that back story.

They didn't mention Ross Kenseth on there? Wow. Up until the past year or so, I don't really recall seeing him around Matt when he won, so I'm not surprised, but Ross has been racing for years and has done pretty well considering his age - something like that should have made it onto the "Beyond the Glory" show. That episode of "Beyond the Glory" (unless he's done two) was a couple of years old and the court battle over whether or not Matt was going to pay for his current racing expenses, etc., came about in the past year or so. I will say that this year, I've seen the kid around Matt a couple of times. I've also heard recently that Matt has agreed to pay for Ross' moving into late-models.

One thing I don't understand, is why Ross gets little to no mention on Matt's site outside of the forums. If I was in his place, on my bio page, I would have more than a one line entry that says "CHILDREN: Ross"

I would have "when my kid was like 7 and 8 years old, he was beating 10 and 11 year olds on the track!!!!" and have plenty of pics of his races. How can you not be proud of your kid not only following in your footsteps, but kicking butt and doing so at an earlier age than you?

That's very true. Big E would have fired the whole engine department. Jr said on his radio show last night that "I guess it was my fault last week with the engine, noone has bothered to tell me otherwise from the company".

I thought his words last night on QVC were very telling about how Max tried so hard to get him the 8. I actually wouldn't be surprised to see him leave DEI soon. Even Hendrick's people only mentioned Max, it's as though the "she who must be obeyed" should not be mentioned>LOL

It's Junior being Mr. Nice Guy, and Eury probably not wanting to be canned early. At times during the races, Eury just seems like he's kind of lost his motivation, and Junior has this attitude of "there's nothing I can do about anything". Maybe they can't do anything - maybe the rumors are true and they are being given crap equipment. It's truly sad and it's pretty clear the blame lies with his stepmother. She's not going to realize what she's done until a few years down the road.

I don't care for Rick Hendrick (him getting a full Presidential pardon from Bill Clinton probably has something to do with that LOL), but unlike Teresa, Rick Hendrick knows what he's got on his hands, and he knows how to make money hand over fist, and he definitely would not stand idly by while engines kept dying in the car of one of his main drivers.

Junior can win when he's got good cars under him, and Hendrick will not pull the crap that his step-mom has, that's for sure.

Dunno the specifics of the original settlement. The fact that it took a second settlement for Matt to (officially) finance Ross' career suggests that Matt was a bit limited to what he could legally do with Ross.

'Tis just a hypothetical on my part, but Tony and Nelson Stewart's involvement could have been a back-door way to get Ross involved in higher levels of racing. I could also be all wet, but dunno why else the Stewarts would have gotten involved.

Can't answer why Ross isn't more-prominently mentioned on Matt's site.

"Eury just seems like he's kind of lost his motivation, and Junior has this attitude of "there's nothing I can do about anything".

I haven't read his media notes from yesterday but the car appears fast again, he bobbled on one of the turns in qualifying therefore, placing himself way in the back. I feel better knowing that half my league team is back there as well. Smoke, Matt, as well as Burton who's RCR engine blew up. Now the question on everyone's lips is how many miles is this engine built to go? I thought I heard on Trackside last night that 01 and the 15 are running the new engine. I'm guessing the RO7 and not the DEI/RCR, but I'm not sure. No mention of what engine Jr has but we will find out by about mile 375 on Sunday if it's not raining.

And finally there isn't anything he can do about all of this. He doesn't go to DEI but once a month and that was awhile ago, at this point in time it may be never, I don't know. Eury cares a lot about his cars and if they are being given cr@p equipment I can only imagine how maddening that must be. Maybe next year we will get some of the scoop on what is really going on. Also, DEI WILL RUN the #8 next year, they are probably all fighting as to who it will be, none of them want to drive it. I'm saying right now people are very angry about this, it will not be a pretty picture for the poor slob who gets it.

Finally, we've been through the RH story many times here and I will only say that he's one of the most generous, caring individuals in Nascar and that's according to those who know him including his employees and other Nascar team members.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I didn’t know this happened. We have a FReeper that works for his team. Sending our thoughts and prayers to Bobby.

Bobby Gerhart released from hospital

TOLEDO, OHIO —Bobby Gerhart, injured during last Saturday’s ARCA RE/MAX Series Pennsylvania 200 at Pocono Raceway, was released Wednesday afternoon from Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown, Pennsylvania.

Gerhart, diagnosed with a left brachial plexus injury and a T6 compression fracture, has been fitted in a neck brace for comfort. The veteran driver has also been fitted with a back brace to be worn at all times in the upright position, and will undergo physical therapy under a physician’s care in his hometown of Lebanon, P

“Overall, I’m just so disappointed,” said Gerhart Wednesday. “As a team, we think it’s plain to see that we’ve got this program completely turned around. We’ve been competitive everywhere. But our championship hopes are gone for 2007, and that’s just disappointing; I don’t know how else to say it.

Wasn’t the crime RH charged with bribing a Honda official so he could get more cars to sell as Honda was a hot commidity at that time and the dealers were being rationed?

Maybe next year we will get some of the scoop on what is really going on.

They won't even have to talk about DEI - if Junior goes out and blows everybody away, it'll be clear what was going on.

Also, DEI WILL RUN the #8 next year, they are probably all fighting as to who it will be, none of them want to drive it. I'm saying right now people are very angry about this, it will not be a pretty picture for the poor slob who gets it.

I think it will be extremely ugly, and I really think that his step-mother has underestimated the fan base. Normally Johnson and Gordon get some of the loudest and longest boos, but I have a feeling whoever drives the #8 will get booed a bunch.

She doesn't strike me as the type to admit they are wrong. It's unfortunate that she has signed Jeffrey Earnhardt for some Busch races in '08 (he's doing Grand National Busch East right now). I don't know when he was signed, but I'd bet it was before all of the problems with his uncle.

"Can't answer why Ross isn't more-prominently mentioned on Matt's site."

Just speculation on my part, but it might be Ross's preference. It's hard for some to establish an identity beyond a famous father. Some enjoy the built in recognition of a famous name, others don't, preferring to be known for who they are rather than who their daddy is. Dale Jr. certainly has had to struggle to find his own place. There are other examples in and out of motorsports.

"DEI WILL RUN the #8 next year, they are probably all fighting as to who it will be, none of them want to drive it."

For someone who supposedly has a NASCAR background and who got to witness first hand the struggle a new driver has with a legend car, Teresa is showing some remarkable stupidity.

For the record, that was NOT a B-17 for the flyby. It WAS a B-25 Mitchell.
