Newark Police Director: Immigration Status Of Schoolyard Slayings Suspect "Irrelevant"
Millennium Radio New Jersey ^ | Wednesday, August 15, 2007 | By: Martin Di Caro

Posted on 08/15/2007 5:31:08 AM PDT by Calpernia

At a news conference on Tuesday, Newark Police Director Gary McCarthy said the immigration status of a chief suspect in the murders of three college students behind an elementary school August 4 is "irrelevant."

"What's relevant to me is that they're murderers, and what's relevant is that a heinous crime has occurred," said McCarthy.

Jose Carranza, 28, one of three suspects so far charged in the execution-style killings, is an illegal alien from Peru. However, despite his many encounters with the legal system, his immigration status wasn't determined. Had federal immigration officials known Carranza was arrested in connection with child rape allegations first in January and then again in May, they could have immediately moved to detain the accused at his bail hearings. But federal officials were never notified. Carranza posted $150,000 bail and was freed in late May.

McCarthy contended there were no guarantees the feds would have acted. "They might have and they might not have," he said. Before he could be asked another question by reporters, Newark Mayor Cory Booker interjected. "It is no way the obligation of the city police department to bo going around doing the work of [Immigration and Customs Enforcement]." Booker added that talk focusing on Carranza's imigration status could have a chilling effect on immigrants in his city. He said immigrants, both legal and illegal, are routinely picked on by criminals.

Booker and McCarthy revealed no specific information about the ongoing hunt for three more suspects, two of whom are juveniles. The 24-year-old being sought, Rodolfo Godinez of Newark, was a fugitive on the night of the murders and has been for four years. He became a fugitive in July 2003 after failing to appear in Superior Court on charges that he robbed and attacked three people in Irvington a year earlier, according to court records obtained by the Star-Ledger.

The news conference was called so Mayor Booker could unveil a street surveillance program he says will reduce crime in the city's most dangerous neighborhoods. The multimillion dollar program will saturate high-crime areas with cameras and gunshot detection technology. The total number is expected to reach more than 120 when all are in place by next summer.

Booker added that talk focusing on Carranza's imigration(sic) status could have a chilling effect on immigrants in his city. He said immigrants, both legal and illegal, are routinely picked on by criminals.

Good on the chilling effect.

The legal citizen immigrants should help the police identify and the illegals so they can be arrested for being criminal insurgent invaders.

Oh that's right, the police don't want to do that. Well, too bad for the legal immigrants. They should DEMAND illegals to be outed.

So it's better for illegals to "pick on" students by shooting them execution style?

Seems to me like he is saying he is not doing his job with the crime regardless of citizen status.

But Essex County Judge Thomas Vena agreed to consolidate the charges, and allowed Carranza to go free based on the bond he posted in the original case.

The judge was just trying to help out a fellow countryman of his? This judge should be held accountable. It's clear the people with brains didn't want his bail reduced.

He’s correct. If you worry about the citizenship of the bad guy, you must consider the race of the victims.

This leads to the concept of racial rather than the usual, everyday black on black motive

Black on black is permissable, latino on black is not

Here's the Carranza animal yesterday (in court on 31 counts of child rape charges).

His name, age, etc. are all suspicious---these animal aliens steal and use multiple ID's.

The several ID's enables them to collect multiple EITC $3500 income tax refunds, welfare checks, workmen's comp, UI and other govt freebies.

This guy musta transmitted a bundle of US money back to Central America after laundering it through the Western Union money-laundering operation.

Good question....and here’s another. You posted a mug shot that says he’s WANTED....so, where’d they get the mug shot and what was he being arrested for when IT was taken?

Post 97 is an arrest warrant for a Jose Carranza. It is only my speculation as to whether it is the same Jose Carranza involved in these schoolyard slayings. But anyway, the warrant in post 97 is for:

"This subject is wanted for Vehicular Manslaughter. On December 26, 1989 the suspect was involved in an automobile accident. The accident involved a pedestrian which resulted in the death of the pedestrian. Cause of accident was determined that suspect was driving while intoxicated."

I went to the city of Newark and from there to www.newarkpd.org where there's a picture of McCarthy grinning from ear to ear. The "contact" option doesn't appear to be working. Maybe someone overloaded it?

I get that it may not be the same person...but I don’t think I’m making myself clear about the mug shot photo.

In the arrest ‘warrant’ that you posted, for Vehicular Manslaughter charge, the photo they used was from a prior arrest. If it’s the same Jose Carranza...he must have committed yet an even earlier crime.

Right?

Have you seen one illegal alien from Mexico, just one, a Mexican citizen commit a murder and receive the death penalty?

How could it be irrelevant?

Or could it be Gary McCarthy is receiving bribes?

No, I totally did not get that the warrant picture was from a previous arrest.

Carranza surrending himself to Booker raises my eyebrow even more now. Carranza seems to know the system well.
