Rudy Giuliani: [A] Nasty Man, Even to His Kids
New York Magazine ^ | 8/15/7 2:07PM EST | In Other News section

Posted on 08/15/2007 2:19:08 PM PDT by hardback

Wayne Barrett, the professional anti-Giuliani, has a piece in this week's Village Voice considering what might have made America's Mayor's daughter, Caroline, grow up to be a Barack Obama supporter.

Some fun details of life at home with the Giulianis:

1. Rudy brought Caroline to City Hall on Take Your Daughters to Work Day in 1994 and 1995, his first two years as mayor, but never again — because by 1996 "the relationship between Giuliani and his twentysomething press secretary had so poisoned the marriage that all such family events were impossible."

2. The Giulianis went on a family vacation after he was elected in 1993 — and then never did again.

3. On Father's Day 1995, Giuliani told reporters he was going to play baseball with his son — and instead went to a basement suite at City Hall with his "ever-present" press secretary.

4. Neither his wife nor his kids went to Rudy's victory party when he was reelected in 1997.

5. The kids aren't listed in Giuliani's bio on his Web page.

6. He skipped his son's high-school graduation.

7. He went to Caroline's but left without speaking to her. "I am celebrating with my mom, my stepfather, my brother, and our other family members," she said then.

Yeah, we'd be supporting someone else for president, too.

I saw some speculation on National Review’s blog today that Huckabee might be Rudy’s VP pick so the pro-lifers would give in and vote for him. They say the GOP lost so big in 2006 because the party has no evident principles. This campaign is proof positive.

Rudy has a lot of personal baggage. Hillary’s ops research people would have a field day with him. He bugged out of the senate race with her knowing full well that she would have blown him out of the water.

He doesn’t believe his family life should effect his run for presidency. Some might be okay with that...

I don’t think it is okay. Not to say I wouldn’t vote for the guy if he was better on other issues, but it’s a part of the non-selling package Rudy gives.

did Howard Dean write this article of is it the NYM?

Why does anyone here even care what they have to say.

From what I see they aren’t much different than the Voice, and thats not a compliment.

He withdrew from the senate race because of his ongoing treatment for prostate cancer at that time. There is no evidence he withdrew because of what Hillary or her ops perhaps knew.

A rehash of the same stories of Mr G that we've read for months. I guess the author was under both a deadline and the influence.

Seriously, my niece could come up with a better homework assignment than this drivel.

That’s the party line. I don’t believe it. It didn’t stop Kerry from running. Hillary would have beaten Rudy and he knew it. Now Rudy thinks that 9/11 makes him a more formidable candidate against Hillary, but he still has too much personal baggage in addition to being a RINO.

In the last election Rudy didn’t even run against Hillary. He could have weakened her big time, possibly defeated her. But no, he was too scared of her.

Rudy is a failed father. His ex may be a witch, but kids are completely able to figure out whether a parent really cares or is a self absorbed jerk that uses them as an accessory. That his adult children have no use for him says it all. If they have their hands out, it’s because that’s what their father taught them to do.

Parents make fools out of themselves when they try to influence their kids against the other.

In April 1999, Giuliani formed an exploratory committee in connection with the Senate run. However, on May 19, 2000, before the Republican primary which he was expected to win, he withdrew his candidacy, with the stated reason that he had been diagnosed as having prostate cancer and needed treatment. Contributing factors may have been the Farmersville Garbage Scandal which significantly reduced his support in his core upstate counties and the fallout from his affair and messy divorce from his wife Donna Hanover.

If Rudy's nominated, the MSM is going to be bringing all of this up non-stop anyway.

So it's good that alternative media is doing this & saving Rudy some face before the MSM gets ahold of him.

I don’t like Rudy Giuliani. He is the Republican version of Bill Clinton. However, I can virtually guarantee you that the author of this article supports
Bill and Hillary, come hell or high water. His points are valid, but this is still agenda-driven nonsense.

it’s pretty clear his marriage was all but over well before most of these events. If you add it all up, they may have stayed together for some time for ‘appearances.’ These things matter, but it is always important to know the context. Bill and Hillary have been married for decades, but that doesn’t make them a role-model couple.

I, for one, would like a hard ass president to take down the miscreants around the world. I do want to hear how all of his ‘skeletons’ play out during the campaign before choosing him over Thompson or Mitt. For someone that this board calls a liberal, he sure does have a lot of enemies on the left.

The great Ronald Reagan had a really weird pair of kids by second wife, Nancy. The daughter, Patty Davis, wrote a couple of thinly disguised fiction books about ice-cold aloof fathers, and was a constant critic of his through both his administrations. His son, Ronald Jr., was his mother’s favorite for a long time, but they are now estranged and his speech at his father’s memorial service was disgraceful. He may be married, but his homosexuality has been well known for decades.

...”Wayne Barrett, the professional anti-Giuliani, has a piece in this week’s Village Voice!”

The Village VOice is all you need to know that this is a hit piece, probably good friends with the CLintons, YOU KNOW!

As for Rudy’s daughter voting for Obama, its interesting how the news jumped on her being a part of Obama’s website, but it doesn’t state how she pulled her membership and it also isn’t a confirmation of her voting either.

WE know Rudy isn’t well liked here on FR, but he also isn’t liked at all in liberal corners and if perceived any threat by Hillary & Co, he’ll get alot more of this stuff in the next year, so I’d be wary of any articles...I am anyway, but since all New York papers are trash!

If I'd been the mother of snotty Caroline Giuliani, I'd have smacked her upside the head for the OTHER stuff she said on that website. Who cares whom she supports for President? She can't vote. She's 17.

She said that her main interest was "MEN" and that her main pursuit was "HAVING FUN" and that she'll take "WHATEVER SHE CAN GET". Good Grief! The kid would have her Internet access cut off and she would be grounded for a year, if she lived in my house.

Appearances, notwithstanding, doesn't she know that posting remarks like that is a great way to be stalked, attacked, raped, kidnapped, or murdered?

Regarding her brother: He may be busy playing golf, but he also said that he loves his father and that he supported him for President. He doesn't seem to like the stepmother, but most kids don't like their stepmothers, no matter what way they came into their father's lives. The fact that he had the grace to express love and support for his father shows me that he had some decent upbringing.

Actually, he “bugged out” of the senate race because the chemotherapy/radiation therapy for his prostate cancer made him too sick to run a race and be a mayor.

I’ve treated a lot of men for this cancer, and warn them about the depression/lack of energy side effects.

Rudi’s wife divorced him as soon as he developed Prostate cancer...if he was having affairs in 1996, why didn’t she do it then, not when he needed the support of a loving wife...

For the most part, criticism of Rudy by the MSM has been general, just routine stuff about Rudy being mean to the poor, homelessness, etc.

When Rudy's nominated, the MSM is going to strip him naked. All of Rudy's scandals are going to be front and center, and most conservatives will vote 3rd party.

You really need to wake up and smell the Jack Daniel's.
