I read the Rove interview in its entirety, and the tone was completely different from what this reporter is suggesting. Rove merely stated what every political observer has noted - Hillary has very high negatives, as measured by every poll that has looked at the issue.

Rove wasn't "ramping up" anything; he was kind of reluctantly drawn into making a couple of comments on the upcoming election, and he stated the obvious about Hillary. Rove's tone was relaxed and humorous, a far cry from the hard-edged impression projected by this reporter.

Basically it was a reply to the ad, which is downright vicious.
