NYP: HOW TERROR GROWS AT HOME
New York Post ^ | August 16, 2007 | Editorial

Posted on 08/16/2007 5:10:45 AM PDT by OESY

...Al Qaeda, the report notes, "has provided the inspiration for homegrown radicalization and terrorism."...

All of which makes the task of identifying terrorists- before they act- enormously difficult....

Such an understanding-based on the case histories of terrorists in about a dozen plots around the world since 9/11- will give law-enforcement officials a better chance to intervene early.

The report cites four key phases:

* It begins with individuals who may be inclined to latch onto "radical thought" who "usually live, work, play and pray" within ethnic Muslim enclaves.

* Then, exposure to Salafi Islam (the most severe strain of Sunni belief), and a gravitation toward those who embrace it.

* Next is "indoctrination"- in which "an individual... wholly adopts jihadi-Salafi ideology" and concludes that action- "militant jihad"- is required.

* Finally, planning, preparing and executing a terrorist plot.

Excerpts from the report, on the opposite page, offer details. But among some of the more alarming findings:

* Jihadi ideology "is proliferating" in the West "at a logarithmic rate."

* "Radicalization incubators"- mosques, cafes, bookstores, "cab-driver hangouts," non-government organizations, prisons, hookah (water pipe) bars, student groups, the Internet- are "critically important" to the process.

* Given the difficulty in spotting and disrupting attacks, it's essential to intervene early.

Bottom line: Intelligence- research, tips from the public, surveillance and other methods- is key. Yet that's precisely what institutions like the Times reflexively oppose.

The paper has worked feverishly to undermine national-security programs, like wiretapping terrorist phone calls. Closer to home, it's waged a furious campaign to stop the NYPD from collecting information to thwart attacks.

The Times has run countless "news" stories slamming NYPD intelligence operations. And it joined in a recent lawsuit to force police brass to turn over documents that could reveal critical methods in those operations, thus undermining them....

One reason why it would be a good idea to greatly curtail Muslim immigration and visitation.

And if that’s too un-PC, curtail all immigration.

And you still have to worry about what’s here already.

The report has a MAJOR error in the four phases listed. The first phase should read:

It begins with islam.

It begins with individuals who may be inclined to latch onto "radical thought" who "usually live, work, play and pray" within ethnic Muslim enclaves.

Do we have those "enclaves" under sufficient surveillance, or will we be taken by surprise when things start going "BOOM!"?

* Jihadi ideology "is proliferating" in the West "at a logarithmic rate."

Well thank God it's not proliferating at an "exponential" rate.

Or perhaps, the author of that statement went to public school.

“It begins with islam.”

The beginning, middle and end result all have to do with islam.

The shameful aspect of this issue is how difficult it is for people giving this waring to be clear about what exactly is being “radicalized”, which is what must now be “tongue in cheek”, also now the so-called, “Religion of Peace”.

By leading with the word “radicalization”, it allows that maybe old, fat white protestants could also become “extremists”. This is the point of Robert Spencer’s new book, Religion of Peace? Why Christianity Is and Islam Isn’t

As time passes, the PC charade becomes harder to sustain, and now becomes sad comedy. The public is no longer worried that blue-haired Norwegian grandmothers are going to try to hijack airliners with knitting needles, it knows the pattern and so far every single terrorist has been a Muslim.
