Is Senator Mel trying to hurt the Republican candidates? He sure isn’t helping them. Maybe he wants to assist Hillary! His ineptness might cost the Republicans the election. His very presence has caused many not to donate to RNC.

Hmmm. I don’t know, that would require intelligence, and I don’t see any indication of such from this guy.

If I remember correctly, the chairman does not get changed until after the next election cycle, which would be after the vote in 2008. Usually if our candidate wins, he picks the next one. I don’t know if that is in bylaws or just customary.

It ought to be changed, we shouldn’t saddle the candidate this time with Bush’s pick. Actually, the chairman is someone I don’t know, an effective campaigner from Kentucky I think.

At the very least Martinez ought not to be doing any press releases.

I for one would have wished Katherine Harris ran against this clown back in 2004.

Martinez is a big fat joke.

Yes, I was hoping Katherine Harris would get the nomination. It was all managed behind the scenes by Jeb and the President, who determined that it had to be an Hispanic. If it had to be an Hispanic, I would have rather had Ileana Ross-Lehtinen than Mel Martinez. She, at least, seems to have some grasp of the American political system. Look at what happened under Martinez’ leadership: we lost both houses of Congress.

Just what I was going to say. Hope the one term Senator has enjoyed his brief time in the limelight. Primary challenger or not, he’s not going to win a second term either way.

Go away, Mel.

You’re an embarrasment to the GOP and to us here in Florida.

The only Hispanics I know that voted for the GOP did so because of social issues (judges) and tax cuts. I don’t recall a single one of them saying they voted for the GOP to get amnesty, and I don’t recall any of them stating now amnesty is their deal breaker.

Maybe the GOP ought to get back to cutting taxes, cutting spending, and appointing good judges if you want any support from any ethnic group in ‘08. As it so happens their support fell across ALL demongraphics not JUST Hispanics.

It’s really that simple. When you stop looking at a person’s skin color it’s easier to find the conservative policy middle ground we all share and that in turn leads to support for the GOP when they act upon it. Too bad mel and the GOP are focused on skin color rather then conservative ideas that are universal.

“No, he won’t, because Florida is a Third World hell hole and Latin American political customs and rules now apply. Think banana republic, and I don’t mean that cheap clothing store. I would bet that there are now as many illegals in Miami-Dade County than legals, not to mention the jihad contingent.”

Yes and deport Juan Pablo Montoya, also.

“After this immigration bill mess, we may need Mel Martinez’s help more than ever. 40% of the hispanics voted GOP in 2004 in 2006 the number had dropped to 10%. Folks we need to get those votes back to win the White House and Congress again.”

What the MSM doesn't tell you is that the Hispanic vote remains a very small percentage of the total vote. As a result, the 30 percentage point decline you describe is a minor factor relative to the six percentage point loss of white votes for the GOP in 2006. Steve Sailer has calculated that Hispanics were about 6% of the electorate in 2006, while whites cast 80% of the votes. Losing 6% of the white vote had a far worse impact on GOP fortunes.

Continued pandering to Hispanics in the form of amnesty to lawbreakers will be suicidal for the GOP and will probably do little to get back the Hispanic vote anyway. Hispanic support in 2004 was probably just a function of personal fondness for the Bush family, which includes Jeb Bush's Mexican wife and their part-Mexican children.

Mel Martinez was “handpicked” by Presidente Bush to be the General Chairman of the Republican National Committee.-

No doubt because he’s the president’s errand boy on illegal immigration as are several other Florida congress folks.
Sun’s way too hot down there.

Mel needs to be dumped. You'd think after the fiasco this summer, he would learn. He's still as politically tone deaf as ever.

As I have have repeatedly stated, you can not recall a US Congressman by any method at all.

Simply can’t be done within the framework of the law.

LOL! If that is truly what we need to prevail in this country, then you can kiss the GOP goodbye, because it will be deader than disco.

What the GOP needs to do is recenter itself on the grounds that it got elected with and held power with, and that was not the hispanics, but we Conservative patriots.

If it panders to hispanics, then it loses us, and your vaunted "hispanic" vote is already a myth.

I don't know where you live, but Florida outside of 2 or 3 inner cities is a paradise here in America, and you sound like a kook from New Jersey.
