My reading of Romans 13 tells me I can do anything I want as long as I am willing to pay the consequences.
Project Megiddo described in this old FR thread certainly lends credence to what you say. I will not argue otherwise. I will however argue that yes initially LE and the military will "follow orders" but eventually they will split along the same lines as the general public followed by civil war. At least it will then be in the hands of the professionals where it belongs IMO.
BTW, I've argued for years that all the bragging by the Clinton administration about their efforts to combat terrorism is nothing more than the usual lies and B.S.
Their efforts were pretty much limited to panic over potential millennium-related domestic terrorism specifically and.constitutionalists, devout Christians, right-wing "hate groups," and militias generally.
As the article states: that "represents a significant victory in the radical left’s 'long march through the institutions' of U.S. law enforcement." The Clinton's DLC New Democrat Third Way "progressives" and the Rat Party (formerly the traditional, patriotic Democratic Party) have just begun.

That being said: if it ever comes down to gun confiscation, I doubt it would be on a house-by-house basis. There are just too many houses to search. Instead, we'd probably see roving sweeps of dangerous neighborhoods, road checkpoints, and massive deployments of metal detectors in public places. There are undoubtedly already lists containing the names of potential troublemakers on a Zip-Code-by-Zip-Code basis (PROTIP: If you are a member of Free Republic, you're on the list) who would be detained in advance of a gun ban. My guess is that most gun owners would have prepared a hidey-hole or two off-premises for just such an event. It won't save them from being arrested (if you've ever had a firearm in your house, the Dog will know), but at least Old Betsy will be there when you leave police custody. If you ever do...
I'm not worried about it, myself. Worry is pointless. I intend to do what I have to in order to keep my family and myself alive, and I trust that the good Lord will continue to arrange things so that everything turns out all right for Family Chan in the end. (Some people call this "luck"; we Christians know better.) Someday, when my time comes, the Lord will remove His protective Hand from ol' B-chan and the Enemy will kill me off (hopefully, after an epic battle!) — but I trust that God will bring me back in a new, improved version on the Last Day.
With that in mind, I'm going to just keep getting up every morning and doing my best, and I heartily recommend the same course of action to you.

Community and individuality are not opposites. People cannot survive on their own. When the odds are stacked against you, you must rally with the oppressed and hated.
When a growing oppressive regime is taking hold, you must act, otherwise you will soon face your enemy alone and hopeless.
Strength of community is a strength as much as individualism, as long you are willing to face weaknesses in your own community. Ignoring slacking values will mean that you will be rallied against by those you oppress.
Niemöller affirms we must rally against unhealthy organized regimes. We must also stay vigilant with those that appear to be good natured, as all organisation attracts corruption. Niemöller also warns us that if it is you who are corrupt, then you will face a stronger combined force of foe!
