A low-level appointee of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger resigned Thursday after the Democratic leader of the state Senate accused him of posting a picture on his blog that amounted to "hate speech."
Sam Wakim, a member of the North Coast Regional Water Quality Control Board, had posted a picture of a fake California driver's license designed to depict an illegal-immigrant in a sombrero. The posting was made in 2005 during one of many attempts by legislative Democrats to have Schwarzenegger sign a bill to provide driver's licenses for undocumented immigrants.
Senate President Pro Tem Don Perata, D-Oakland, called the blog posting appalling in an e-mail statement to reporters. Sabrina Lockhart, chief deputy press secretary for the governor, on Thursday also characterized the picture as "unacceptable and inappropriate." The Sacramento Bee first brought the picture to the attention of the governor's office.
Schwarzenegger appointed Wakim, a self-employed dentist and GOP activist, in 2006.
On Thursday, Wakim made no mention of the blog flap in his resignation letter. He said he was leaving his post to dedicate more time to a 2008 bid for a state Assembly seat. His term on the water board would have expired in 2010.
"I'm pleased to hear Mr. Wakim has resigned," Perata said Thursday in a second statement. "State appointees represent all of California. There's no place for people who indulge in that level of hate speech."
The faux "Mexifornia" driver's license contained a picture of a Mexican worker from a comedy film and said it entitled illegal immigrants to drive, vote, attend college and purchase guns.
There was no answer at Wakim's home Thursday evening.
This is nothing more than a lampoon. There is a serious problem and someone roasted the illegal immigrant with this fictitous license.
Let me ask anyone to answer these questions. Which is worse, to lampoon the illegal alien like this, or to listen to the news and find out illegal aliens have killed more US Citizens? Tell me, which was more racist? Too large a percentage of illegal aliens don’t value the life of a US Citizen at all. They steal from us, flout our laws, savage our health care and education systems.
So, I ask, is the lampoon the worst?
What about the rapes of US Citizen women? Is that worse than the lampoon? What about the molestations and rapes of our girls and boys? What about the drop in San Antonio of vehicle theafts by 50% once the border was brought under control there? Was that racist behavior against US Citzens as evil as the mighty lampoon? What about burglaries, thefts, gang activities, almost exclusively against US Citizens? I guess that pales in the light of the mighty lampoon.
Good God folks, when in the Sam Hell did up become down, left become right, black become white, the US become Mexico and the brilliant thought processes of those supposed to be the guardians of our nation become what now passes for the intelligence of our politicians and newspaper reporters.
These folks belong on a reality show where they can ask for help, call a friend, parley with a family member or when all else fails, buy a clue.
F those that can’t see the difference between a lampoon and Murder One. Screw those who think we’re the racists and the illegal aliens who savage the US public at will, the rightous.
This is one US Citizen that isn’t going to take this any longer. I’ll be making some contacts with the idiot sticks pushing this racist charge. When I’m done they’re going to have had an ear or eye full believe me.
It’s time to take this nation back, and if some don’t like the sound of that, I’m more than willing to see them slink off south of the border with the others who think our nation is here for the pickings, no responsibility or loyalty due in return.

Yeah, I thought the fictitious license was funny too. Apparently, "Hate Speech" is any opinion which is not in lock-step with their so-called progressive agenda for America and ultimately the world. Surely they are as disturbed as the Islamists in their demented and twisted vision for mankind. This is pure Stalinism and I find it chilling. Do they not play the ignorant with calculated mis-direction?
This also ties in with with the so-called "Fairness Doctrine" and the attacks on Talk Radio (read Conservative Talk Radio). Look at the increasing frequency in attempts to silence Limbaugh, Savage, and other conservative talk radio hosts. The San Francisco Board of Supervisors attempted to brand him as a racist, invited mobs to protest outside of the radio station he broadcasts from (which were bussed in from who knows where) in order to silence him as well.
Seems like we are well beyond 1984...

With regard to the busing, four questions come to mind. Who pays for the buses? Who has the time to drop everything, ride on the bus to a remote location and back, plus spend hours on site? Are these people being paid to do this? If so, who is paying them?
All the A.N.S.W.E.R. rallies use this tactic. They get thousands of people to show up at rallies where we get twenty. One of my observations was that many of the people showing up looked as if they were on some kind of public assistance. Others looked like union members.
Are union members showing up with pay? Is some sort of public funding paying folks to show up for the day when they protest? Are the buses being paid for with public funds?
Do university staff members promote these rallies and offer extra credit or some grade remuneration for those who participate on behalf of Marxist causes?
I would dearly love for the feds to do a paper trail on these leftist organizations. Tens of thousands of people don’t drop everything they are doing for politics, without something going on under the surface other than personal devotion to this nation.
Sam is in my district and was my dentist. He is of Lebanese heritage and his wife is a (legal) immigrant. Every moderate we have had appointed from this district to represent our area on the Regional Board has been shot down by some environmental/activist hit job. The first was Georgi, who was ousted on some hate speech allegation. The second was Sommarstrom who was ousted on a conflict of interest allegation. And now there is Sam - one of the nicest fellows you would ever want to meet. It is so obvious that the leftists don’t want anyone on the Regional Board who could mess with their hit job on farmers, ranchers, loggers, miners and the four Klamath River dams.
Be carefull posting Conservative messages on your car. Liberals are criminals who will gladly key, dent or deface your vehicle.

They wanted him off the Water Board because he was asking too many questions. It's too bad he gave them this excuse, but I don't think it will hurt him in his Assembly run.

He was appointed by the Gov. but hasn’t been confirmed yet. Since the complaint came from the Democratic leader of the state Senate, I would hazard a guess that he would not be confirmed. Why go through a very nasty confirmation hearing which will draw out all sorts of bogus accusations when you are planning a political run for the Assembly?
It is very clear that the leftists do not want anyone who is representative of the rural population that is being regulated with such a heavy hand to be on the regulatory board. It is patently unfair to be regulated by others without any representation.
