You know, things like this really pi$$ me off. The only reason this happened is because the two women are trying to make a point. My guess is that they asked the church about the ceremony, were told no, and decided to make an issue out of it and, perhaps, get some money along the way. I'm sure had they checked around, they could find some church or other organization that would permit such a ceremony.

My point is that you should be able to do just about anything you want as long as you don't infringe the rights or inflict harm on someone else. If the two women are gay, that's fine with me. If the church wishes to deny the ceremony, it would seem to me they have the right to do so, since it is a private organization. Suing for compensatory damages is clearly a crass attempt to extort money from the organization.

What's the state of NJ going to do if a guy approaches the same church and asks to marry a sheep? If would appear that, according to the state's law, he can sue under the same provisions. Stupid.
