Muslim groups to exhibit 'Muhammad dogs'

Two Muslim groups have indicated their willingness to exhibit controversial sketches by artist Lars Vilks after galleries in western Sweden declined to show the artworks for fear of Islamist reprisals.

Inspired by Sweden's recent 'roundabout dogs' craze, Vilks composed a series of sketches portraying the Muslim prophet Muhammad as just such a creature.

The well-known artist took his pictures to galleries in Värmland and Bohuslän. Both however refused to show the drawings on the grounds that the security risk was too great.

But now two groups - the Secular Muslims in Sweden (Semus) network and the magazine Minaret - have taken a joint decision to exhibit the sketches.

"This will take place at an established musical and cultural venue in Stockholm. Negotiations are underway and I think it will be ready at the beginning of next week," Semus spokesman Hooman Anvari told news agency TT.

Anvari believes that there is a very good chance that the exhibition will go ahead as planned. .

"Partly because there's a public interest in generating a nuanced discussion on this issue and partly because Lars Vilks has agreed to participate," he said.

While he himself considers the drawings to be tasteless, Anvari is adamant that they should be put on display.

"Our intention is to create a nuanced debate around freedom of speech, religious freedom and democracy. These issues tend to cause polarization if they are not tackled in the right way," he said.

“Sadly I think Sweden and most of western Europe will not survive Islam.”

- Sounds like a ghost story.

Having said what I have about Europe, I'm not without concern for North America as well. Western civilization is currently under assault and for the most part remains in a narcotic slumber.

It is said that great societies do not die by murder, but rather by suicide. For the most part that's true; however, I think we are witnessing a deliberate neutering of ourselves while being assailed from the outside. If you've not read it, I would highly recommend Robert Borks, "Slouching Towards Gommorah." Although it was published over 10 years ago, and admittedly is primarily centered on the United States, it speaks to all of western society.

No no no no no no no.

You've gotta do it with a bit more flair.

Like this:

"AAAAAAAALLLAAAHUUHAKBAR!!! We BEHEAD those vile kaffirs who falsely claim that the glorious Islam is violent!! The Prophet (PBUH) has spoken! ISLAM will rule the WORLD!!!"

Kinda like that. Got it?

What, in the world is a “Secular Muslim”???

Someone of Muslim cultural background or ancestry who is secular. Like a lapsed Catholic or a Jack Mormon.

It's a much safer label than "ex-Muslim".

Actually, “the guy in the picture” shouldn’t have been used as the “Islamic Hate Boy”, since he was standing up against radical Islam at that protest.

But I like your idea in general. The guy is unfortunate to have that face.

“Having said what I have about Europe, I’m not without concern for North America as well.”

- Your attitude is the right one.

We Europeans sometimes act ignorant. Just like you do. For instance, both our continents underestimated Hitler.

Another time, another threat.

True loyalties between men stay intact.

We’re in this together.

Regards from YOUR only ally to OUR only ally.

That’s art? Try chicken scratch!

Yup. Chicken scratch. I thought this was Mohammed with the bomb on his head.

If you can't tell what the drawing is supposed to represent, who can be offended?

You do have a point. All in all, though, I'd say Ronald McDonald is more frightening.

I don’t know, something about waking up next to the Burger King, and the way he just smiles...and stares...stares into your soul...

*shivers*

Gives me the heebie jeebies!
