As has often said, when the facts don’t support their argument, they resort to name calling. Their arguments are so thin that they float like scum on water.

It is imperative for Dimocrat chances in 08 for the “surge” to fail;

anticipating that it will not, they’ve launched their smear campaign against Gen Petraeus.

The headline is enough of an indication that this is trash reporting. There are far more reasons to think that Hanoi Jane and John Kerry betrayed us than to pick any General of today an make that charge.

A few of years ago, watching Lawrence Korb on TV, I decided he was not reliable on this topic. If I remember right, he was trying to justify terrorist tactics. Terrorism is the tactic of the weak. Palestinians needed terrorism as an equalizer. It was something like that. That was when I decided this guy could not be trusted.

Democrats Launch Preemptive Strike against Troop Surge Report

War critics are saying that the upcoming report on progress in Iraq is going to be a “con job.” The report from the US commander in Iraq, General David Petraeus, isn’t due until mid-September. However, a number of witnesses who have been on the scene in Iraq have asserted that the troop surge seems to be working.

Success in the war is expected to present political difficulties for the Democrats. In fact, House Majority Whip, Representative James Clyburn (D-S.C.) said that reports of the surge’s success are “a problem for us.”

Faced with the grim prospect of a possible victory in the Iraq War, Democrats are scrambling to discredit the forthcoming report. “For a long time the Administration has hidden behind the name of General David Petraeus,” said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.). “Let’s not forget, though, that Petraeus is subordinate to President Bush. He will do what his commander-in-chief tells him to do. He will say what his commander-in-chief tells him to say. Since it has been shown that the president has lied about Iraq before, we’d be foolish to place any credence on this upcoming report from General Petraeus.”

Rep. Rahm Emanuel (D-Ill.), the House Democratic Caucus chairman, accused the Bush administration of continuing to spin the facts about Iraq. “After years of slogans and sound bites, Americans deserve an even-handed assessment of conditions in Iraq,” Emanuel said. “Petraeus represents only one side of the story. We need to hear testimony from al-Qaeda, too. That’s the only way we’ll get a balanced picture of what’s going on.”

This is coming from the American left, not the UK. Harry Reed started preparing the ground for it early last week. The Democrats are in absolute panic that the surge will work, and are busily working to undermine the credibility of any report before it’s issued. If they thought the report wouldn’t be good, they’d be announcing what a fine guy the General was. Just your basic lefto propoganda factory at work.

I see these three comments.. mine is the one at the bottom.

What do they mean a “Recently retired General” calling him Gen.”Betreaus”? What kind of Democratic crap is that. Name the General or retract the saying. The Democrats are affraid of what Crocker/Petraeus have to say, and the good reports coming out of Iraq. Their No.2 man in the house already said so.That “Recently Retired General” wouldn’t be that Clintoon syncophant Gen. Clark would it??What a clown act.

Ron Moore, Harbor Springs, Michigan USA

Why did you fail to identify the so called recently retired general who called Petraeus General Betraeus?

Wayne Trieschmann, Zachary, USA/LA

“Betraeus’”?

How contemptable from our so-called Allies.

BTW: Dont put words in my mouth. I picked the one I wanted.

Indeed the Headline was:

disdainful, sneering, insolent, arrogant, supercilious, haughty

towards the General.

Good for you pacelvi.

This story has not been picked up the media that I can see, although I did not watch the sunday morning talk shows.

It looks like the folks on the internet and talk radio is going to have to make this an issue.

I also think the general they are talking about is Weasel Clark.
