The right to unionize is as important as the 2nd Amendment.

You don’t have to arm yourself, but if you want to buy a gun for yourself, the government can only watch you (because you, American, are the government).

Unions can be a very good thing. Even so, employers don’t have to hire unions. You don’t have to be part of a union.

Unions must publicize exactly how much money they collect (even “voluntarily”), and to whom they pay that money to.

Union leaders can talk about candidates who best support their industry, but unions cannot force anyone to vote a particular way. Union leaders might be able to talk about the protected status of those who abort unborn children if the union were in the abortion industry. But, it would be silly if an automaker union had such an interest in the abortion industry (why are there union leaders compelled to talk about industries and sexual topics that have no connection to making a better, safer car?)

Union leaders who break the law go to jail. This is no different than one who’s legally purchased a handgun and then commits a crime. The gun owner who becomes a criminal must also be punished by the law and per the law they broke.

A gun in the hands of a law abiding citizen is a good thing.

A worker in the ranks of a law abiding union is a good thing.

A fire arm used for crime is a bad thing.

A union used for crime is a bad thing.

When firearms are used for politics it’s called civil war. Is it any different when unions are used to coerce workers?

Cedar Rapids is a funny place to tout unions.
Diebold had a few thousand workers in Cedar Rapids with a fat contract with a no strike clause.
The employees were making much higher wages then is normal for the area.
They went on strike over having to chip in for medical expenses and true to their word Diebold sent the jobs to Mexico.
Great job there union mafia thugs.
Now these former Diebold folks making 20 an hour can get 7.50 an hour at the local handy andy working part time.

Democratic presidential candidates argued Saturday night that organized labor is an essential part of the nation's economy...

In other news, Democrats argued Saturday night that domestic oil drilling is an essential part of the nation's economy.....

Nevermind.

Just a question, Joe.

This Diebold operation in Cedar Rapids, is this the old LeFebure Corp. Plant?
Just curious, I used to work for Lefebure and was wondering what became of the plant there.

“Clinton addressed the crowd first. “It was unions that organized workers, that gave them better wages and working conditions and benefits like health care and pensions,” she said. “And what is happening now is that the American middle class is under assault.””

Mrs. Clinton, more workers are running away from unions because they know their leaders are crooks and only doing what is good for them and not their membership. Why do you think that the unions are forcing open votes? They cannot intimidate workers if workers keep their voting private.

Mr. O’Reilly, this isn’t hate speech.

Not all union workers are democrats. Infact most of the people in my office happen to be republicans or independants and we all hate the union we are in. But its California so we have to be in it. I still hate them for taking my $60.00 a month.

OK, thanks. I knew Lefebure went out of business. Diebold and others picked her bones clean. I wasn’t sure if Diebold kept part of the Cedar Rapids operation.
I know that Diebold still markets what was a LeFebure product. A unit called CDM (cash dispatch machine). It is a unit installed between 2 bank teller stations and dispenses cash for both tellers. Allows banks to hire tellers that can’t count.

Although they continue to bray that they are for the people - particularly the “little people” - Unions are for the union bosses the same way government is for bureaucrats and elected officials.

What industry has ever turned out better/cheaper products/services by unionizing?

Education? Airlines? Automotive? Railroads?

I wasn’t aware the LeFebure went under.
Wouldn’t surprise me though.

As for cedar Rapids I’ve gone to the Amanna colonies a few times just south of Cedar Rapids.
Some of the best food and grog and wine anywhere.

I thought unions represented the working class, the middle class typically has no use for them.

Unions are legally-protected (govt. enforced) service cartels.

Since WHEN is a privileged, anticompetitive cartel of any sort considered OK to democrats?

What protectionists! Sad sad sad...
