The Vermont licences will be slightly more expensive than standard ones. They will contain security features similar to a U.S. passport.

I wonder if you can get them cheaper on the street?

From your link:

Right now, a new Texas license costs $24. That may seem like a bargain under the new federal law because it didn't give states money to make changes.

That is up to Texas to figure out.

"We have anticipated a very rough estimate of $167 million the first year and $101 million every year thereafter," said Judy Brown with the DPS Driver's License Division.

Wow that's quite a hike from $24!

At least the second year the license will only cost $101 Million...

I wish ALL states required proof of citizenship. If they did it probably would be OK for them to use the license for Canadian crossings.

And most states issue drivers licenses to illegal immigrants. How worthless does the Federal government want to make American citizenship?

“Not so long ago, a ‘low’ technology driver’s license was sufficient to go into and return from Canada.”

In the late 60s and early 70s, I traveled Canada, Mexico, Bahamas, Jamaica, And Dominican Republic with nothing more then a very low tech Tennessee drivers license. If I recall, it did not even have a photo.
It goes to show how much times have changed in the last 40 years. It is sad.

Very. They don't want there to be "American citizenship" unless it's NORTH AMERICAN citizenship.

Yes. What I object to is the federal government using this situation as a vehicle to turn state driver licenses into National ID Cards.

Here is one reasonable option; Either a passport or a drivers license (from states requiring proof of citizenship) would suffice to cross into/from Canada. No National ID Card. Driver licenses remain controlled by the states as they should be. And the pressure is relieved on the passport system.

I doubt this would be acceptable to the North American Union/National ID Card cabal.

WHTI is the Western Hemispheric Transportation Initiative.

It was born out of the UN subsidiary UNCTAD(United Nations Conference on Trade and Development ) under the tutelage of the OAS(Organization of the American States). Our politicians are so corrupted by the globalist institutions they don't even try to come up with a different name for their unconstitutional legislation formed by international NGOs. They don't even PRETEND to be loyal to the American people any more.

Archive of Meetings in the area of Transport

The Western Hemisphere Transport Initiative (WHTI) is an element of the Summit of the Americas process. The purpose of the WHTI is to provide a forum for convergence and cooperation among the Ministries Responsible for Transportation of the Summit of the Americas countries. The WHTI derives its action program from priority action areas and other directives mutually agreed-upon by the Ministers Responsible for Transportation of the Summit of the Americas countries.

“Didn’t the 9/11 scumbag hijackers have drivers licenses?”

Yes, and they probably all had passports and visas to be in the US, too. What’s your point?

You’re welcome. Hedge’s description of WHTI wins, hands down.

I’m so sick of these new terms being used to describe NATIONS... Western Hemisphere, The Americas, etc.
To me, it is all part of the conditioning process “to prepare our people for a global future.”
(that’s a quote from our Austrian socialist Governor, another globalist moron.)
