As much as I dislike AlGore, perhaps this is the right thing to do. Why? Well, it preserves the essential feature of the electoral college, which is to deliver a result reflecting the broad consensus of the American people, in a manner which reduces or eliminates incentives for cheating. This is why popular voting is a bad thing btw - it pays to load up and cheat on that basis.

Ironically it IS a smaller, state version of the Electoral College. It will destroy the democrats monopoly on the state though. If it goes through, LA will vote millions of times for the democrat candidate and it will carry the “weight” of a few congressional districts. Another low population district will have the same weight as far as EVs. Of course democrats will sue for this to be thrown out the instant the next republican president is elected.
