This brings to the forefront the questionable loyalty of Turkey, the nearest NATO member in the region. Putin would love to annex Georgia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan. Doing so would also allow a common border with Iran on the Western side of the Caspian Sea. I do not envy the position the Georgians find themselves in.
