Romney's Record [Claims vs. Reality]
Boston Globe Online ^ | August 22, 2007 | N/A

Posted on 08/22/2007 12:45:45 PM PDT by aMorePerfectUnion

On several issues, Mitt Romney is putting the best spin on his accomplishments as Massachusetts governor.

Healthcare

What Romney says on campaign trail: "So we talked to the insurance companies and we said, 'How do we get the premiums down?' They said, 'You know, you put so many mandates and restrictions and regulations on us, if you removed some of those, we could get the premiums lower, so they'd be more affordable.' And we did. We went from a $350 monthly premium for an individual seeking coverage down to $175."

The record: The premiums cited are for the lowest-cost plans for 37-year-olds. The drop in prices mostly came from a combination of political pressure on insurance companies, restrictions on access to specific healthcare providers, and the consolidation of the small-group and individual markets.

The Mitt-worshipers can’t stand the heat.

There can be no criticism of their annointed one.

They even refuse to read anything that might be critical of him.

They simply ignore the facts and attack the messenger.

They simply ignore the facts and attack the messenger.

The facts.

And don't attack the messenger.

From Romney's interview with Cavuto: For instance, all the mandates we put on insurance—that just makes insurance more expensive than it ought to be. There’s a need also to allow people to own their own insurance policy rather than having a company decide which insurance you get.

This is one of the biggest truths about the costs of health insurance that no Dim is willing to admit. If government at all levels would get out of the insurance mandate business, health insurance would be so much cheaper.

As an example, almost all states require some days (usually 30) of insurance for mental health. You have no choice but to accept it in your insurance policy.

Why does that drive up costs ? Personal story. My grandfather , at the end of his life, went into a coma due to diabetes issues and was taken to the hospital. He died 2 weeks later. My father went over the bills from the hospital and found, among many other things, that my grandfather had been receiving visits from a staff psychiatrist twice a day every day in those two weeks, to the tune of a $5600 bill. Why did the hospital do this ? Because they know everybody with insurance has a number of days of mental health coverage and they were going to milk this patient for all they were worth.

JohnnyZ, I have failed to see much of anything out of you but criticism of Romney. In fact, looking through your posting history, it’s pretty evident you have little else on your mind when you come to this site. Which leads me to question why you come in the first place.

I have an opinion about people incapable of doing anything but being an anti-this or anti-that, but I’ll leave it be.

Keep playing the role of the liberal media. It suits you well. I’ll take your criticism and their criticism as a sign that Romney is doing exactly what he should be doing.

And by the way, it’s pretty easy to ignore the so-called facts when and attack the messenger when the messenger is a hollow shill.

You’ve been busy posting anti-Romney articles today. I wonder, just who are you supporting?

Thompson?

Giuliani?

Maybe... Hillary?

They simply ignore the facts and attack the messenger.

You are not presenting facts, you are presenting spin.

You are agenda driven and do not present unbiased data. Not to mention your completely out of whack deductive reasoning ability.

You would say that because ice cream consumption goes up in the summer and the incident of rape rises in the summer means eating ice cream causes people to commit rape.

Ds,
I am supporting not Romney and have posted two articles
today that call elements of his claimed record into
question for discussion. Think of me as the balance
to the Romney ping list.
