It’s more than that. Here in PA the Republican party administration is largely country-club suburban folks who look with disdain on the conservative base. The party essentially refused to provide Diana with the resources she could have used in an effort to beat Murtha. I suspect there are Republican party officials in that district who were happier with Murtha getting re-elected than they would have been to have someone like Irey take his place.

The same happened in RI. The RNC threw their support behind Lincoln Chaffee (he didn’t even vote for President Bush in 2004!) and now Sheldon Whitehouse (Rat and weak sister) will be in there forever!
