Heated issue confronts JPS [ILLEGALS TX]

The already sticky issue of providing free healthcare for Tarrant County's illegal immigrants is complicated by a clash between a consultant's prediction of high costs to serve them and past data.

A report by an Austin-based consultant predicts that tens of thousands of illegal immigrants would sign up if JPS Health Network let them into Connection, the county hospital's free preventive healthcare program for poor people. The cost would total more than $40 million in the first year and climb to more than $100 million in 10 years, according to Phase 2 Consulting.

Opponents of extending more care to illegal immigrants hold up the report as another example of illegal immigrants soaking up public services at a huge cost to the taxpayer.

Its free health care Americans don't get. Why should we subsidize illegals?

"Many of us here without documents came to work, and I think working is not a crime. We can't have all the rights as a U.S. citizen, but at least healthcare should be a right."

Where in the hell does crap like this come from. Earlier today a mexican in Kansas, said that since she had gotten her papers, the laws she broke in the past were not important. Of course she got her papers lately, and she was speaking through a translator. So how did she pass her test, jorge and certoff fraud. She was in jail for Id theft.

I have worked in this country for decades without going on the dole.

How do illegals so shamelessly ask for more than I receive as a citizen of the US?

This is a travesty. It cannot continue.

How much money do these people remit home? I am reeling from seeing an estimate of 3-4 million anchor babies. That can’t be a fluke. It must be organized subversion designed to swamp our system and bankrupt us.

How much money do these people remit home?

How much? Remittances to Mexico from the US reached $25 Billion USD in 2007, according to Reforma....

I heard recently that the remittances came uncannily close to the amounts we taxpayers are forced to provide illegals in services.

Ironically, this country fought a war over taxation without representation, what we are seeing today is the illegals have representation without taxation.

Basically the only way they can send anything back is because we are carrying them, it's our money.

That is a pet peeve. Pay your doctor before you go to Western Union.

That’s the tragedy. If you’re illegal, there is NO way to make you pay. So why bother? They know they are getting free medical care and don’t care if the rest of us get any of it.
