RUDY'S 'ARMY'
August 24, 2007 -- Military veterans are ready to salute Rudy Giuliani as their next commander-in-chief - but treat Hillary Rodham Clinton like a private.
Giuliani is the most popular presidential candidate among vets and Clinton is the most unpopular, according to a Gallup poll released yesterday.
*********************
While popular among all vets, Giuliani faces a tough battle for the military vote in a Republican primary. He gets 28 percent of the vote, compared to 25 percent for unannounced candidate Fred Thompson.

Rudy Gets the Veteran Vote: Poll
The article fails to mention who polled who and where or what the sampling was.
While I am not a Guiliani supporter, I think him a decent person, just not presidential material.
The article appears to be more cheerleading for "one of their own" more than an honest polling, to me. I just have a ahrd time accepting that "all vets" have thrown themselves behinmd him this early, and he "faces a tough battle for the military vote in a Republican primary."

TO me, it’s all the things you asked, and who actually voted in the poll. No veterans I know have ever been asked to vote in a gallop poll, of any kind, nor have I.

I participate in Zogby polls through email ocassionally, but there have been no real questions lately about backing anyone.

I don’t accept that these great veterans of our wars — who fought for our sovereignty and freedom want “SANCTUARY MAN” . There is no way they want gulianni — this gun grabbing , illegal alien loving, liberal’s liberal. That ain’t gonna happen except in the media.

I was at a benefit and mostly all the vets were for RG

Just a few weeks ago some poll was claiming that someone else had the military...Romney maybe? Or was that Rudy too? I can’t remember. LOL

This poll will get the Rudyphobes worked up.
Expect the thread to be filled with inane comments about cross dressing and how a Giuliania presidency will end western civilization as we know it.

I am carefully watching all of the candidates, looking for one to vote for. I saw that Guiliani does not support a new terrorist Palestinian state, for we do not need more of that, and I perked up. His family life has not been that great, but I think that I can forgive that, if he has good sense.

The only thing the VFW and American Legion vets agree on is the fight against the jihadis.
Rudy would do a good job of that.
Remember, these vets span the political spectrum.
If push came to shove, I'd support Rudy too. Above all else we need somebody who will kill the jihadis until they tire of dying.

Watch more carefully. :) Rudy has more problems than cross-dressing, multiple marriages and a daughter who supports Obama.
There is his obvious pro-choice stance and some very definite equivocations regarding the 2nd Amendment. Apparently there are geographical exceptions with regard to the 2nd Amendment. How about operating a sanctuary city and refusing to shut it down? Yep, that's some real Law and order there. What has he ever done? I know he brought back NYC from the brink of destruction but where else did NYC have to go, besides up?
I don't buy into polls and this one is no exception and I very much doubt Rudy has any real support from our veterans. If so, I couldn't imagine why. He or Fred, for that matter. Since we are at war, I don't know, I would just be more comfortable with someone who has actually been in one leading the country.
We are going to need far more than standing on the rubble after the fact and a snappy retort to a Saudi Prince to pull us out of this. Like I said, look more carefully :)

Right, exactly. It also depends on how the questions in the poll were worded. If the question read, 'Between Hillary and Rudy, who has your vote?'.. most vets would say Rudy. If the question read, 'Between Fred Thompson and Rudy, who would get your vote?'.. the poll would be a bit more mixed than the hillary poll.
Would I like to see Fred Thompson get the nomination? Absolutly. However, at this point in time, he does not have the money or the traction in his movement to beat Rudy in a primary. It's entirly possible that he will give Rudy one hell of a run for his money in 6 to 8 months.
If it came down to Rudy vs Hillary, the obvious choice would be Rudy... at that point I would be voting against Hillary- Similar to what the Democrats did in 2004.. many of them did not vote FOR Kerry, they voted AGAINST Bush. Hopefully it does not come down that that as I would love to see Thompson get it.

Thompson will win some states in the primaries...but Rudy will win some VERY BIG states early on.
California, NY, Florida, Michigan etc.
I expect 'em to fight it out on the convention floor...in a most civilized manner:) It will be a healthy debate for this party and the nation.
I can even see a ticket with BOTH of them on it. How would the social conservaties react to that? Could they vote for a Thompson/Rudy ticket? A Rudy/Thompson ticket?
I contend they are BOTH the future of the GOP.

This veteran will never vote for Rudy. I didn’t serve for as long as I did so Rudy can trample all over the Second Amendment.

It’s easy to see why they would be for him: he has guts and brains, he don’t take crap from reporters, he loves America but wasn’t afraid to marry a woman who truly loves him no matter the political cost.....he has Balls, that’s why they like him.....we don’t need no wimps or ex president’s wives in the White House

If Rudy gets the nomination, he will probably choose Fred Thompson as a running mate to amp up the conservative base. We agree 100% on that. If Thompson gets the nomination- It would be in his best interest to choose Rudy as a running mate because of his national exposure... and lets face it.. most americans with some common sense would vote for a Rudy/Thompson or a Thompson/Rudy ticket anyday over a Hillary/______ ticket.
