US police report blasted for marginalising Muslims

The main US Muslim advocacy group and rights organisations have blasted a New York Police Department report suggesting that young American Muslims are particularly vulnerable to be recruited as terrorists.

"Whatever one thinks of the analysis contained in the report, its sweeping generalisations and mixing of unrelated elements may serve to cast a pall of suspicion over the entire American Muslim community," said Parvez Ahmed, Board Chairman of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR).

IOL reported that the NYPD suggested that Muslims aged 15-35 are particularly vulnerable to radicalisation.

The 90-page report suggested a four-phased process of radicalisation during which personal crises such as losing a job or suffering from racism can serve as a catalyst.

The report argued that a Muslim can pivot quickly toward violence within two or three years.

"The culmination of this process is a terrorist attack."

CAIR ridiculed the report's suggestions that positive changes in personal behavior such as giving up smoking, drinking and gambling are signs of radicalisation: "Is Islamic attire or giving up bad habits, which is something recommended by leaders of all faiths, now to be regarded as suspicious behavior?"

The rights advocacy group also complained that the report listed sites that are likely to be visited by any American Muslim as radicalisation "incubators". The sites listed include mosques, cafes, cab driver hangouts, student associations, nongovernmental organisations, butcher shops, and book stores.

Ahmed added: "While labeling almost every American Muslim as a potential terrorist, the report's authors admit that their findings offer no useful way to identify real terror suspects."

He warned of the report backlash: "By promoting stereotypes and unwarranted suspicions, the report's authors encourage marginalisation of and hostility toward the American Muslim community."

In its 2006 annual report, CAIR documented a surge of almost 25 per cent in discrimination and hate crimes against American Muslims.

It recently urged Muslims nationwide to review security procedures to protect their places of worship, citing an increase in incidents involving vandalism of mosques and several physical attacks.

It has circulated a set of guidelines designed to protect mosques and their worshippers which includes building good relationships with neighbors, having people attend the mosque regularly and consulting with the community relations officer of the local police department.

Christopher Dunn, of the New York Civil Liberties Union, said the report risks turning law-abiding Muslims away from cooperating with the authorities: "While aggressive counterterrorism policies are to be commended, this report appears to treat all young Muslims as suspects and to lay the groundwork for wholesale surveillance of Muslim communities without there being any sign of unlawful conduct."

"To target Muslims in this way would mark a dangerous and unlawful erosion of the line separating the police from lawful religious activity," he cautioned.

The Executive Director of The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee, Kareem W. Shora, said the police report was stigmatising the whole Muslim community: "The report is at odds with federal law enforcement findings, including those of the recently released National Intelligence Estimate, and uses unfortunate stereotyping of entire communities."

Since the 9/11 attacks, American Muslims have become sensitised to an erosion of their civil rights, with a prevailing belief that America was targeting their faith

The report has been delivered to the White House, the CIA, the FBI and the Homeland Security Department.

Well, the truth is, that it’s exceeding hard to recruit Christians, Jews, and Hindus to be Muslim terrorists.

Don’t you have to convert first to be a “Muslim extremist”?

Duh.

Let’s see, we have 99.975% (just a very accurate educated guess for those who want to know ;)) acts of terrorism perpetrated by one group. And of course that group objects to being recognized for what is springing forth from their midst.

Me thinks they’ve been drinking in too much Mosqatel...

I was going to comment on this, but this article is full of such incredible stupidity, it's a parody of itself.

Boo-hoo, Muslims are pissed because someone actually recognized that Muslim terrorists are recruiting Muslims to be terrorists.

If only the Dummiecrats had the intelligence to see that this is their multi-culti PC crap in full flower. Oh, wait--they DO, and they don't see a thing wrong with it.

Real close to being the most asinine statement of the decade - "terrorism" was generally reported as "activism" or "protest" until the islamists took it world wide.
And, of course, I'm happy that the author considers "aggressive counter terrorism" to be commendable. Which sort of makes this the most asinine and condescending statement of the decade.

On the other hand, I'll volunteer for "wholesale surveillance" of Orthodox Greeks, German Protestants, and Louisiana Catholics; the food is better and they like to party.

CAIR?
All 1800 members?
CAIR?
Which is almost entirely funded by Saudi money?
CAIR
Whose founding members were confirmed terrorist apologists and supporters?

That CAIR?

All terrorists are Muslim. That's a hard fact that pretty much shows this muslim group is in serious denial, or are just making noise in a weak attempt to stop the FACTS from being told to the American public. As usual, it's the waving of "we are victims" card, which we are all pretty sick and tired of. Islam scripture is a hate manual, it produces terrorists, it doesn't produce anything else. It isn't being "misinterpreted", it isn't written in a mysterious code that only some uneducated Imam can understand, even though he can't even read or tie his shoes.

Even the Koran itself says it is written so all can understand it. They Koran wasn't even written, it was orally communicated at first, in the local languages. All of what is known about Mohammad and his ways was recorded and written by Ishaq, There is no other earlier or more accurate source, all others draw from what Ishaq originally wrote, and Tabari retained the most of all Ishaqs wrote.

If these Islamic scholars have it wrong, then nothing else can be right, Mohammad can't exist nor can the Koran and Islam, which would be a GOOD thing for the entire world.

Islam is what it is, a book of evil and hatred, calling for the death of anyone who resists Islam.

Nobody can deny the entire history of Islam since it was invented by Mohammad until today has been nothing but a continuous war of terrorism, mass slaughter, torture, and misery where ever it goes.

Ultimately, Islam is what it's followers show us it is. That makes it impossible for these Islamic apologists to tell us that Islam is a religion of peace, that it is being hijacked by a few rogue fundamentalists, when in it's entire history, it has left nothing but a trail of blood.

Perhaps Mr. Dunn should read and “interpret the Koran” with the same eye as he “interprets” this report.

Mr. Dunn says:
“this report appears to treat all young Muslims as suspects”

and the Koran “appears” to treat all non-muslims as ???????
Mr. Dunn says: ???

This past year has seen the Islamofascist rush to American Courts, or voicing fascist opines of reports such as this. LAST NIGHT I was watching M Malkin interviewing some guy (avowed Muslim) b***HING about the pictures of 3 men who appeared to be of mideastern descent. He first starting blamiong the FBI, but MM made it clear that the photos were taken by the ferry employees. They became suspicious after these three guys showed up a few weeks ago and started riding the ferry at different times.

Then he said that the FBI should have come to Muslims in the Seattle area, and let them know about the pictures before they were made public. MM asked a question: “Why would you want the FBI to come to Seattle Muslim leaders BEFORE they do an investigation. (Ofcourse these three haven’t VOLUNTARILY gone to the FBI) Is the FBI suppose to do some hand holding or what.”

Frankly this was one dumb Muslim leader. He thinks that the FBI should give him a heads up, so they can call these guys and tell them that the heats on, go to plan B.

I do think they all have their marching orders to get into our Judicial and Legislative branches, and attack the Administration from there. I don’t think even the dumbest of Dums would say that the Muslims should have a heads up on who the FBI is investigating.

The Muslim, eh? Ya know what, they should actually stop being wimps and speak out against these so-called people who have allegedly hijacked Islam in the name of Allah, which by-the-way is a MOON god.

The QUR'AN is read by ALL Muslims. Islam is NOT a religion of Peace. Now that people are waking up to this fact, people are being labeled bigots and racial profilers.

But, hey what the heck, so label me since we all know that on September 11, 2001, we were attacked by Islam. This after a JIHAD had been declared against us. So pardon me while I say, I do NOT giving a flying fig if these people are upset. They can all go back to the Middle East and live their lives and leave us ALONE.

I guess the point of the article is that we shouldn’t warn people that Muslim youths are prone to becoming terrorists because - drum roll please - that might turn them into terrorists!
