Democrats threaten an important state--and unity (Unrest in Florida's Democrats)
The Los Angeles Times ^ | August 25, 2007 | Andrew Malcolm

Posted on 08/25/2007 9:50:00 PM PDT by Ernest_at_the_Beach

For hours today, the second-floor conference room in Washington's Capitol Hilton could have been a meeting of lawyers for insurance companies with individuals reporting on their plans and activities state by state. But then at 11:20 came what everyone had been waiting for:

It was Florida's turn to report to the Rules and Bylaws Committee of the Democratic National Committee. And as The Times' Bob Drogin fully reports here on this website and in Sunday's print editions, the committee lowered the boom on the defiant state party that violated rules by moving its primary election ahead of Feb. 5.

As Drogin reports, despite Florida's plea for mercy and understanding, the committee voted unanimously to strip the state of all of its delegates to the national convention in Denver next August if it doesn't change its primary election date from Jan. 29 within 30 days. This threatens all kinds of fractious future floor fights on television at a national convention designed to weld party unity behind its new Democratic nominee for the last two-month push to the Nov. 4 election date next year.

From the CNN link at #3:

Nelson said Friday Florida Dems are prepared to pursue legal action against the DNC.

**************************EXCERPT************************

At the meeting, held in a downtown Washington, D.C., hotel, Florida Democratic Party Chair Karen Thurman argued that it was Florida Republicans who muscled the legislation through the state legislature to change the primary date. Thurman’s argument was not enough to persuade members of the DNC Rules and Bylaws Committee.

Florida Democrats now have 30 days to submit an alternative plan to the DNC.

LOL!

It’s nice to see overt infighting in the other party for a change.

Thanks for the post and links, Ernest.

"CNN tells us that Sen. Bill Nelson and other Florida Democratic lawmakers are threatening to sue the DNC."

...All that Senator Nelson has to do is point out that he will switch parties over to the GOP unless Florida is fairly treated.

Dems will cave within moments. 1 Senator switching parties right now shifts power from Dem to GOP. Committee Chairs are instantly dethroned nationwide.

Could this be a Dem ploy to get all those disenfranchised Dems in Florida all stirred up? They figure they did not get counted last time, and it won’t happen again! Not in 2008! This should get them out to vote at least 2 or 3 times on election nite!

One more thing about the "butterfly ballot" that the Dims and their accomplices in the Media complained about. They showed the ballots at an angle in photos, to make it appear the arrows were not pointing directly at the circle.

Like this:

Here is an actual photograph of the ballot shown straight on.
