BAGHDAD - This year's U.S. troop buildup has succeeded in bringing violence in Baghdad down from peak levels, but the death toll from sectarian attacks around the country is running nearly double the pace from a year ago.

-snip-

Iraq is suffering about double the number of war-related deaths throughout the country compared with last year - an average daily toll of 33 in 2006, and 62 so far this year.

-snip-

So far this year, about 14,800 people have died in war-related attacks and sectarian murders. AP reporting accounted for 13,811 deaths in 2006.

TOPICS: Foreign Affairs; Government; News/Current Events
KEYWORDS: casualties; iraq; msm
14,800/243 (days through 8/31/07)= 61 not 62 per day 13,811/365 (days in a year) = 38 not 33 This results in a daily increase of 61-38= 23 23/38 x 100 = 61% AP math: 61% is "almost Double"

Moderator.. The Title above is the one used by the Minneapolis Star Review. Forbes used: “Iraq Body Count Running at Double Pace” for the same AP story. Sorry, I thaought I changed it.

AP reporting accounted for 13,811 deaths in 2006.

And how many of them were fake AP reports?

Also no account for the fact that a record number of terrorists are being killed since the surge. Guess dead terrorists are included in "civilian" casualties.

Will someone mention to the AP that 33 or even 60 a day, around the counrty, is not much different from the murder rate in Philly, LA, New Orleans and NJ combined. The deaths are small by comparison to the weapons used. We kill 15,000 people a year on our highways and nobody thinks we are in a civil war.

Using stupid stats is an MSM trick and our highway deaths have no relation to anything, but it is the type of crap these yahoos use to make up their story and sell a headline of "We are losing and that is why we are hated." they are terrible at getting real news and putting 2 and 2 together. Why someone is dying in Iraq - 33 or 60 a day - is known not because they have good data, but because they have chosen to use crappy data to tell the we are losing story. / rant off

I’ve noticed that the suicide bombs this year kill more people per bomb than last year. Better and bigger bombs coming in from Iran??? So IF the AP is right (a very big IF) and deaths are up, the number of atttacks are down...

It never stops does it. I read the other day that the 93% increase in foreclosures was a data error - in that each step from being late till the hammer falls at auction was counted as a new foreclosure by the data mining company. Sine they included six steps that meant their numbers are five times the actual data. Put nobody made the corrections on their news pages.

It would be nice when news people figured out that 35% of their readers are Republicans and 15 votin independents who are getting facts and are turned off by lies. Then their sales might not be in free fall.
