What part of “it was a joke” didn’t you get? Then I read that huge post, in response to a well noted joke, and you don’t even answer the question that was actually serious in nature. I was wondering if you had been to Costa Rica yet, and how it was.

Oh, and being in shape isn’t exclusive to home school families. My kids are fit, I am fit (not overweight, toned, still workout) my husband is fit. Some of the activities we participated in during the past year are cross country skiing, snowboarding, riding dirt bikes (3 of 5 family members competed in this including me), gymnastics, mountain biking, hunting, target shooting, hiking, basketball, sledding, tennis and just running around the yard playing normal kid stuff. My oldest son was in kindergarten in a public school and we still had time to do it. Parents could find all kinds of time to spend with their kids if they make it a priority. In our family, it certainly is.

I don’t home school, yet I make meals from scratch. And just last night, I told my kids they wouldn’t get any pie, if they didn’t eat their dinner. OK, dinner was leftovers from the two previous nights, but all the choices were made from scratch. They ate all their dinner, because they have missed out on dessert before. Last night we had a pie fresh from the oven or a huge fruit salad I made that afternoon with yogurt. They weren’t about to miss that.

I couldn’t care less if people want to home school their kids. That is a core principle of being a conservative. It isn’t my business how people decide to raise their families. I haven’t met one parent who has said, “We are trying to muck our kids up as best we can.” We live in a great district. Since we pay for it, we will use it, until there comes a time we don’t see fit.

I have never met a fat homeschooler who has been homeschooled from the beginning.

Maybe that is why homeschooling is continuing its phenomenal growth. Parents are beginning to notice.

BTW, read this this morning on foxnews.com:

The motorcycle crashed into the car and Campbell was thrown through the rear window, Thatcher said. Martinez then drove away and realized when he got home that the motorcyclist was in his car, Thatcher said. Martinez then drove to a Riverside County fire station where 20-year-old Campbell was declared dead, according to the coroner's office. Martinez was arrested and booked for investigation of gross vehicular manslaughter, hit-and-run and driving under the influence. Bail was set at $75,000.

Let's review. A drunk can kill someone with their car, drive home with the body and get bail at $75,000, and these parents, who are being investigated for abuse and the kids are clearly not dead, get bail set at $100,000. I find this odd. I thought there were guidelines set for bail amounts according to the charges.

Worth repeating...thanks for the sane post.

As it is 'that time of year' (back to school) the public school bashers are out in force. I made the mistake of reading a thread last night about unsuitable reading list material for a school district in Illinois. And though I should know better (have been here 8 years) I had to respond to a post that stated (quote) "placing a child in the public school system is abject child abuse." Sometimes I wonder why I spend any time here (FR).

I think I'll lower my blood pressure today and go find out what Brittany Spears is up to...PerezHilton here I come...
