Presidential Nominee Mitt Romney Promises to Legalize Abortion (article title)

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, who is running for the Republican presidential nomination, on Tuesday in an interview with Nevada television station KLAS said that if elected president he would allow individual states to keep abortion legal, the Washington Post reports.

Romney earlier this month in an interview with ABC News' George Stephanopoulos said he supports a constitutional amendment that would ban abortion nationwide. According to the Post, the "two very different statements" reflect a "challenge" for Romney as he attempts to be a "champion of the antiabortion movement".

In an interview with the Associated Press Tuesday, Romney said that giving states control to "fashion their own laws with regard to abortion" should be the "next step" in the abortion debate. Top Romney advisers on Tuesday said the governor supports a two-tiered process in which states first would obtain authority to regulate abortion after Roe v. Wade -- the 1973 U.S. Supreme Court case that effectively barred state abortion bans -- is overturned. The second step would be a constitutional amendment that bans most abortions nationwide.

James Bopp -- an attorney who has represented antiabortion groups and a top Romney adviser on abortion -- said, "There's no flip-flopping. There's no contradiction. There's simply step one and step two." Jon Ralston, a columnist for the Las Vegas Sun who interviewed Romney for KLAS, said he believes Romney's "moral positions conflict" with his "states'-rights opinions," adding, "I don't see how you can be antiabortion, be in favor of a constitutional amendment and be in favor of states' rights". Sorry, you are trying to make it exclusionary. It’s simply not so.

Oh you got to do better than that CC? No I don’t. I am not the judge. You condemn me because my g-g-grandfather helped to commit the worst mass murder (white on white) in America’s history prior to Oklahoma City. Well, I stand here to say what he did was wrong. Your ggg granddad could have been a child-rapist for all you know. Maybe you are the result. And that would matter not one iota to me or God. But by what judgement ye judge, ye shall be judged. YOU threw that stone Resty. IMO you should be banned for it!

Restornu is a protected poster. She has no limit to which she may post hateful things and be banned for it. The apple/tree commnet was over the top and then some, but you see not a single Mormon speaks out to rebuke her and the mods ignore the smut.

It just seems to me that a Constitutional Amendment and turning the issue back for each state to decide on its own are mutually exclusive.

Would you explain the purpose of the Amendment option, if you favor it going back to be decided state by state?
The process of amending the constitution is a very long and difficult process. It requires two-thirds of the Congress and then two-thirds of the states to approve.
The President has no role in the amendment process, no a potential president's opinion in the matter is moot.

Following Thomas Jefferson's original 10 amendments, known as the Bill Of Rights, the Constitution has only been amended 17 times in our nations history, and one of those amendments was simply to nullify a previous one (prohibition).

A Constitutional amendment clarifying the legality of abortion - either prohibiting or protecting it - is the ultimate endgame for both sides, though the two sides effectively stalemate either from reaching the high hurdle set for an amendment. And even an amendment would not necessarily be the absolute final say in the matter, as we see from prohibition.

Amending the Constitution takes years, and rarely succeeds. Anti-abortion amendments have been attempted many times through out the years, and so far none have gotten anywhere, and it is unlikely that any will in the foreseeable future. So in the meantime, there are other less definitive things which can be done to advance the pro-life position. Overturning Roe v. Wade (the State's Rights position) is the most significant.

I think anyone who is for a constitutional ban, but not for overturning Roe and thus returning the decision to the states is the one who is inconsistent.

And what of the other Lee descendants? The tree is big, if I recall. The Udalls are also apostate, right? Perhaps I’m wrong.

JR,
Since all I did was post an article word for word,
I’m fine with your silliness and inability to distinguish
that which a FR poster composes and that which is posted.

No problem. Enjoy life.

I’m so sorry that he forever blazoned that into your soul and you never had the chance to find the real love of the Gospel, with a helpmeet that would honor you and sustain you.

I realize you probably think he did you a service by his actions, opening the “truth” to you, but please don’t lump us all together with the evil actions of your first husband.

Thanks. I couldn’t fit the whole thing in there, but the meaning is clear. Those who claim the bible is the only source of truth, surely would not want the other books of Jesus life and deeds showing up and making them mad.

Here’s the whole verse:

John 21: 25
25 And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.

I have no clue why CC came on like gang busters tonight maybe an unpleasant thought before loging on now!

Are we not suppose to count our blessings like all the wonderful children she has and even though she has challenges in life she still has control over her future choices.

In all the teaching in the NT are we not suppose to let go and let God.

Do not harbor ill will for it erodes one progression.

Somehow I pray that CC let the pain go and replace it with her new faith and let the Lord heal her.

Assuming Roe v Wade gets killed (long shot) and until a Constitutional Amendment passes (doubtful if that would even happen anyway) then certain states, CA, MA, NY, etc could pass laws allowing abortion.

A constitutional amendment outlawing abortion would not be ratified by the necessary 3/4 of the states. I can think of more than 13 states without even trying that would not ratify it, and if push came to shove I doubt that very many states outside the bible belt would.

The only way that legalized abortion would ever be ended in the US would be IF Roe is overturned and IF a majority of voters in every state were to become convinced that abortion actually means killing an innocent human being and demand that their state legislatures ban it by state law. I know miracles do happen and that nothing is impossible with God, but that would be a miracle on the same scale as Moses dividing the Red Sea.

Never the less, I still pray that it will happen. After all, the Israelites did walk through the sea on dry land.

He still thinks he can “earn” his way to Celestial Glory.
+++++++++++++++++++

At the LAST SUPPER, Jesus taught about some of the divisions in our Father’s house. He even speaks of getting one of the places in our Father’s house ready for the disciples at the table. Then he reasserted that there are many different places in our Father’s house.

To my finite mind,(this is not from the Church, it is from me) I see the three degrees of glory as no more then different subdivisions for the many mansions.

[CHAPTER 14;
1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
2 In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.]
