It occurs to me that the radical Islamists resemble people with severe narcissistic personality disorders, like Michael Moore. They are so profoundly uncertain of their own significance and reality that they persistently resort to doing whatever it takes to make people really, really pissed off. Then and only then do they feel a very perverse satisfaction and assurance that they must be real and important, “After all, see what a reaction I’ve caused”. They are very, very good at this game, much better than anyone who tries to outsmart them at it. It’s extremely infuriating, because you invariably realize at some point just how much energy, creativity, drive, and even talent have been committed to such a horribly destructive purpose. I wish I knew some brilliantly simple therapeutic method to apply, but I don’t. But you can’t let them run around loose. They will destroy everything they touch.
