>> I’d trust a pot-smoking Republican in principle and in fact before I’d trust a look-at-me-I’m-a-Christian church “leader” any day.

There is quite a difference between the acknowledgement of definite imperfections and hypocricy within the Christian community, and declaring outright that you’d sooner trust a dope-smoking Republican than any professed Christian. That’s just dumb.

The idea that hypocricy is the highest crime that can be committed is simply a straw-man argument constructed by hedonists to use against any moral person displaying any imperfection at all. Christianity is a religion which, on its face, acknowledges that hypocricy is inherent in ANY advocacy of a moral life. The Bible states that we are all, necessarily, fallen beings that will absolutely give into temptations that we certainly should resist.

The failure of every Christian to fully live up to the teachings of Christ does not negate the importance of his teachings, nor does it indicate hypocricy (defined as the advocacy of a tenet in which you do not actually believe). It merely indicates the nature of every person on this planet to fail to live up to a moral ideal.

“Carey is a self-described libertarian, not a conservative. “

True but he did contribute to the Republican Party and was at Bush’s inauguration

I always heard that Richard Boone was a “Friend of Dorothy”, but could not verify it.

Always loved Rip Torn in the Cincinatti Kid. Better than McQueen (who was a lib) in that film.
