I see a government office bigger than the IRS due to the prebates outlined in the Fair Tax. The government is going to determine eligibility for monthly prebate checks? What will that cost and how many errors will there be? SSA has some 9 million errors annually passing out social security checks. The Fair tax will have many more “eligible” families than SSA to distribute monthly checks to. This will invite corruption and many more errors. I support a consumption tax to bring home ALL taxpayers, but have trouble supporting the Fair Tax for these reasons.

I also can’t support the fair tax as it stands. My reasons are that they won’t tie the repeal of the 16th amendment to the implementation of the tax and the “fair tax” actually double-taxes monies earned prior to implementation.

Your statement tells me you haven't seen The Fair Tax Act Of 2007 or visited Americans For Fair Taxation website. Having done so you would have read the existing Treasury Department will administer the prebate. The government is going to determine eligibility for monthly prebate checks?

The government does already through the Department Of Health And Human Services. The size of the rebate is determined by the DHHS poverty level guideline multiplied by the tax rate. This is a well-accepted, long-used poverty-level calculation that includes food, clothing, shelter, transportation, medical care, etc. Fair Tax FAQ #3

The Fair tax will have many more “eligible” families than SSA to distribute monthly checks to.

What specific data do you have to back up an otherwise vague claim?

ALL taxpayers, but have trouble supporting the Fair Tax for these reasons.

It is obvious you haven't read the bill or visited the AFFT website based on your erroneous comments. I suggest you do so before making anymore comments.

Actually, it’s fairly simple. Canada does a simular thing with GST tax rebates; they issue a quarterly rebate check to low income people based on their previous years earnings on a sliding scale based on income.

Now all they have to do is eliminate the federal income tax, and they could have a flat tax. But this is Canada we are talking about, that will never happen, although the GST was supposed to be a step towards that goal.

Your whole blurb is so full of errors, one hardly knows where to begin.

The Fair tax will have many more “eligible” families than SSA to distribute monthly checks to

"eligible?" If you breath, you are "eligible" - whether you make 20K a year or 20million.

the Prebate is based SOLELY on the number of people in the household. That is ALL that is reported.

You report NO income, no place of employment, nada. Every household gets a prebate calibrated solely on the number of people in the house - said prebate to offset the tax for the necessities: food, clothing, etc - We wont be out any money for the sales tax until after that living level has been passed...and in addition, we'll have much more money too spend as not one thin dime will be deducted from paychecks.

In addition, anything bought secondhand, ANYTHING, will NOT be taxed...including a used car or 'used' house.

Sure, the millionaires don't like it. They will finally be paying their FAIR share - no loopholes. And the tax lawyers, the tax accountants and the tens of thousands now employed by the IRS will scream into the night against the FAIR TAX.

All you one-issue immigration folk should love the FAIR TAX - illegals wont get a prebate check but will be paying the sales tax right from the first dollar - ditto the drug czars, etc.

So, is it that you just haven't really read/understood the FAIR TAX bill or you fall into a category like one of the above?

Everyone is eligible. There is no determination. It is based on family size.
