Agreed. That's why I support the Fair Tax. Every one pays the SAME tax rate. No more taxing the rich more in the name of class warfare or leaving the poor off the tax rolls so the middle class is left with an increasingly heavier tax burden. A simple system even a schoolchild can understand. I do know why the elites hate it. They can no longer withhold people's paychecks and pretend they are doing us a big favor by giving us back a pittance every year. Abolishing the income tax, payroll and Social Security taxes would dramatically slash taxes across the board. Having one federal tax is vastly better than a mountain of them.

They WILL NOT abolish the IRS, SSA, and then they will build a bureaucracy around sending out the “prebates”. Be carefull what you wish for, because the entire Fair Tax, which I cannot support due to the “prebates”, WILL NOT be implemented, and WILL NOT result in a “simple system”.

” Every one pays the SAME tax rate. No more taxing the rich more in the name of class warfare or leaving the poor off the tax rolls so the middle class is left with an increasingly heavier tax burden.”

These two statements are contradictory. The rich will still be taxed more because the consume more.

Consumption may be a better yardstick (than income) to allocate the cost of government, but it is hardly perfect. The perfect tax would be to simply divide all government spending by the population — ie, any family of four would owe $40,000 in federal taxes. That is the only thing that will ever stop people from voting for bigger government. As long as one person can vote for somebody else to pay his share, that’s what will happen.
