Contractor Deaths Push Total U.S. Toll in Iraq Near 5,000(100K private contractor force)
newsmax.com ^ | August 27, 2007 | Rod Proctor

The death toll of Americans killed in Iraq is much higher than commonly reported and may now exceed 5,000, based on Pentagon and U.S. Labor Department reports.

That's because official Pentagon statistics do not count the deaths of private contractors, who are playing a much bigger role in Iraq than in most previous wars.

Based on workers' compensation claims filed with the U.S. Labor Department, 1,001 contract employees had died in Iraq as of June.

Adding contractor deaths to the Pentagon's statistics gives a more realistic assessment of the war’s total impact.

As of late August, for example, the Pentagon was reporting that 3,047 soldiers had lost their lives in combat, with another 681 lives lost from noncombat incidents related to the war. In total, 3,728 U.S. soldiers have died since the Iraq war began in March 2003.

Adding in the 1,001 contractor deaths pushes the number of lives lost much higher – to 4,729.

Lawmakers and experts tell NewsMax there have probably been many more than 1,001 contractor deaths in Iraq, however, because many workers' families probably don't realize that they can file the claims.

This summer, according to the Houston Chronicle, Labor Department official Miranda Chiu wrote to U.S. Rep. Jan Schakowsky, D-Ill.: "The data show the number of cases reported to the department, not the number of injuries or deaths which occurred."

And subcontractors who aren't paid in U.S. dollars – most of the employees working in Iraq are not U.S. citizens – are naturally ineligible to file a workers' comp claim.

"Clearly, many of the subcontractors have not filed claims," Deborah Avant, an author and professor of international studies at the University of California, Irvine, tells NewsMax.

Let’s see, we are in a war the Democraps don’t want to fight, we freed 25 million people, the MSM wants us to lose, and in 4 yrs we have lost 5K people ( I do feel bad about the number), but all in all , pretty successful.

“So what? A completely irrelevant piece of data?”

The families of those who paid the ultimate price and those of us who have fought for our country would disagree with you.

But then, since you NEVER took up arms and fought for your country in combat, you wouldn’t appreciate their sacrifice now would you.

Your inane comment really doesn’t warrant any further response than my tagline.

kellynla.......tone it down a tad. I won’t pretend to speak for MNJohnnie, but I don’t think his intent was to be cavalier about ANYone’s deaths. I think his point was the MSM is digging all they can to find reasons to undermine support for the troops’ efforts there and to bolster the “cut and run” liberal mentality by trotting out any and all such statistics.

We all know very well that NO one is a ‘statistic’; they have families, friends, loved ones, and each and every one (in uniform and civilian) is precious in God’s sight......and in ours.

I say this, by the way, as a veteran and the father of a Captain currently serving in Iraq with the US Army.

I guess that since the number of US Servicemen who are dying in Iraq is in a steady decline, the MSM is forced to include the deaths of contractors to help pump up the casualty numbers.

Wrong on both counts. So shut your stupid mouth and think for once instead of acting like a emotionally hysteric Leftist jerk off.

Anyone who wants to use the bodies of dead Americans to push their political propaganda is pure gutter slime without even the least bit honor or deceny.

I am appalled and sickened that people like YOU, who should know better, are pushing this sort of propaganda garbage.

These people volunteered for a dangerous job knowing full well they might die in the doing. The were not ordered into a combat zone, they went willingly.

To now sit here and posture and beat your breast over their sacrifice to validate your ignorant Do Nothing political dogmas is not only moronic, it is an insult to the sacrifices they have made for our country.

Oh God... take a chill pill.

Of course every individual death is devastating to the families involved but in the over-all scheme of things irrelevent in this context.

The Army Of Black Flags

The Mahdi’s ascendancy to power is said to be preceded by an army from the east who will be carrying black flags or banners of war.  Sheikh Kabbani states:

Hadith indicate that black flags coming from the area of Khorasan will signify the appearance of the Mahdi is nigh.  Khorasan is in todays Iran, and some scholars have said that this hadith means when the black flags appear from Central Asia, i.e. in the direction of Khorasan, then the appearance of the Mahdi is imminent. 17

Another tradition states that:

The Messenger of Allah said: The black banners will come from the East and their hearts will be as firm as iron.  Whoever hears of them should join them and give allegiance, even if it means crawling across snow. 18

In Islam there are two flags.  One is white and one is black.  Written across both flags in Arabic are the words, “There is no God but Allah and Muhammad is his Messenger”.  The white flag is called Al-Liwaa and serves as the sign for the leader of the Muslim army and is the flag of the Islamic State.  The black flag is called Ar-Raya and is used by the Muslim army. It is also called the flag of jihad, and is carried into battle.  One flag is governmental and the other is a military flag. 19 When Muhammad returned to his home city of Mecca after being exiled for eight years, he returned as a conqueror.  With him were ten thousand Muslim soldiers.  They carried with them black flags.  On the flags was one word written in Arabic: punishment. 20

I was once talking to a group of young Muslim men and asking them some questions.  I asked them if the obvious superior militaries of America and Israel compared to the militaries of any Islamic nations were a source of difficulty for many Muslims.  One of these men then became very angry at my question and snapped out, “You Americans and Zionists better get ready, because the black flags are coming!”  At the time, I had no idea what he was talking about.  Later I learned the meaning.

I think EVERYONE who has paid the ultimate price should be remembered. And that is why I posted the article.

And I am appreciative of NEWSMAX(which I wouldn't consider part of the MSM or LSM by any stretch of the imagination) for this article and information. Good day!

"and in 4 yrs we have lost 5K people"

To add a little contex to that - during the same period of time over 8,000 people were murdered in the State of California.

i think maybe you portray a misleading picture of the UK. Sure we have radicals, we have extremists, but I think some abroad might think we run a similar kind of country to Indonesia et al. Indonesia will have massive support for the Ummah, asits Muslim. The UK, however, is 71% Christian, and only 2% Muslim.

Can I assure anyone wanting to visit the UK that you’re safe from rampaging Islamic crazies.
