Family Surprised By Community's Outpouring of Love
August 29, 2007)
ARANSAS PASS--A fallen soldier from the Rockport returns home for a final trip to the area where he grew up and family is now preparing to bury the war hero.
He was only 23, but Army Sergeant Garrett McLead, a graduate of Rockport Fulton High School, has already made the ultimate sacrifice for his country. He was killed last week in a helicopter crash in Northern Iraq.
Sgt. McLead died last week after a Blackhawk helicopter crashed in North Iraq. For a week, his family has been preparing for his return, but they never expected to see the outpouring of love from total strangers.

"We know Garrett is in a better place than this," said James Wilson, who stood on the side of Highway 35 to pay his respect to McLead. "I just know that, but his family will be grieving. We're here for the family."
In Aransas Pass, school children lined the streets to pay their respects to this fallen soldier. Perhaps the most emotional moment came at AC Blunt Middle School where McLead's mother teaches.
God bless this brave and honorable young man’s family...who never truly got to see him “grow up” to enjoy his life.
A picture is worth a thousand words.
Prayers for him and his family.
