Sanctuary Cities: Flipping the Bird to Federal Law and American Citizens
www.FamilySecurityMatters.org ^ | 30 August 2007 | Pamela Meister

Sanctuary cities have had a lot of exposure in the press of late as the illegal immigration debate becomes hotter than a Marine’s M-16 semiautomatic rifle in summertime Iraq. But there are some of you out there who may not know exactly what a sanctuary city is. Simply put, it is a city whose government has policies in place that prevent police and other officials from inquiring about anyone’s legal status, and they are not allowed to cooperate with federal immigration agents. These cities employ a “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy, similar to the one enacted by former president Bill Clinton regarding gays in the military.

Sanctuary cities provide a haven for illegal aliens, but at what cost? Pam Meister takes a look at the impact sanctuary cities have on America’s most vital security and economic concerns, and suggests a solution to a problem that grows more frustrating by the day.

If ANYONE if the federal govt. had any sense or balls they would stop giving federal monies to ALL these “sanctuary” cities.
But all we have are sheep in govt. watching the clock waiting for a fat pension.

But this is the very heart of Liberalism - Placing your own personal private “ethics” above all else and subverting any notions of other responsibilities to anyone/anything else is Liberalism in action. Any old notions like responsibilities to your fellow citizens, country, culture, language, or the law are to be disregarded in favor of their endless search of discovering their own innate wonderfulness.

The “enlightened” Libs are really nothing but selfish, arrogant little narcissists who desire desperately to be saviors and they can be counted on to do one thing in any situation - Whatever makes them feel good about themselves. They do not recognize any responsibility except to themselves.

The democrat convention is going to be held in a de-facto sanctuary city next year.

The circus is coming to denver town.
Can’t wait to see unions protesting non union workers.
Can’t wait to see the sheep cheer for Mrs. Clinton and hear her rant like a crazy she dog.

Great post but I just want to add. Liberals/leftys not only are “arrogant little narcissists who desire desperately to be saviors” but they want to do it with minimal to zero effort. They love talk-fests or protests where they either sit or stand around in one place in the deluded belief that they actually accomplish something big. For me, someone like the late Mother Theresa of Calcutta, who got down and dirty day after day helping the dregs of society was a real example of a saviour, not a bunch of lazy hand holding, singing and screaming “saviors”.

Forgive my ignorance...

..but when did this idea of 'sanctuary cities' start?

Which authorities turn a blind eye and how high up....President et al?

Who funds the freebies given to illegals?

Some of these are basic questions & I may know the answers...

But fundamentally, why is this allowed....is it by decree from Washington?..

.. a not so subtle acknowledgment that the 'powers that be' want this, have wanted this and still pursue this..(amnesty)

..so don't even bother to enforce the laws on the books.

I’m sure the federal government wouldn’t be so disinterested if cities would declare themselves as sanctuaries for income tax evaders. Yet, this is exactly what most illegals are. They are paid in cash, under the table, and they wire much of that cash back to Mexico.
The IRS harasses US citizens for every dollar of income taxes owed, garnishing wages and seizing homes and businesses for unpaid taxes, but ignores the Mexican illegals who don’t pay. What a country.

The very same thing can be said for “Libertarianism”.

Chambers of Commerce and other business orgs. would be my guess.

Absolutely true of course. I would make a distinction between those who wish to save others for the sake of those others, and those who wish to “save” others only for what they think it says about themselves.

Libs are the modern Pharisees, loudly praying in public for the sake of their own egos.

Makes sense....but under whose direction?
...there was huge lobbying from the Chamber of Commerce, I know, during the amnesty fiasco...

Good Morning Joe,
It is apparent that our elected leaders from the top to the bottom do not have the moral and eithical courage to do what is right.

Those mayors and clergy in those cities who harbor these criminal illegals should be charged with aiding and abetting illegal domestic terrorists.

Bush however, might get offended that his compassionate conservatism would be affected by these actions.

As I See It,
NSNR

Well, the Illegal Immigrant Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act was signed into law by Bubba in 1996, so they've been around for at least that long.

I think it's interesting, BTW, that the MSM never hopped on Toon for signing that bill. Wonder how Hillie feels about it...

I know where I live it starts at the local level. The lib mayors, town boards, etc. They set up shelters (our tax money) for the day labor guys to meet at each day, they don’t do anything about the illegal amounts of families living in single family homes, they add all these extra spanish speaking programs to the schools, library, etc. So even in our small town they cater to the illegals. Often at the disservice to taxpayers. It is very frustrating.

But would they do this if there wasn't tacit approval or nod from the 'powers that be' higher up in government?

How could they defy law if they didn't have complete protection/approval.

I'm just trying to get my mind wrapped around this....obviously I have much to catch up.

I am sorry G.W. ever became our president. Not that algore would have been any better fact he’d be much worse but some one else could have been the republican nominee.
This kissing the hand of Mexico is just wrong.
