Gingrich is a smart guy, but a complete irrelevancy when it comes to Presidential politics. Right now, he’s just got too much of a notorious history to be a viable Presidential nominee. He’s the Republican version of Hillary Clinton ... right down the line on the issues, but not terribly electable.
