While I am disappointed in his immigration and assault weapon stances, I admire him because of his service to this country. The No. 1 issue in my book is the Global War on Terror (GWOT) that is likely to be around for our grandchildren to win...and, on that issue, McCain stands heads above the rest. I know that he will fight and win (something that Bush apparently was unwilling to do until he finally instigated the "surge" in Iraq). The GWOT is going to be like an albatross around the neck of this nation; and if we lose it, count on you and your daughters wearing a burqa to go shopping (of course, you'll not be permitted to drive to the mall).
Oh, I have a lot of respect for McCain. My father was a fighter pilot in Vietnam (and the rest of his AF career.) I was just kind of surprised because a McCain supporter on FR is rarer than a Sassquatch siting! (He seems to garner an irrational amount of contempt.) He isn’t my favorite, but I would be perfectly happy with him as a candidate. Unlike most people, I’m very happy with our bench. Everyone else is waiting for the second coming of a mythical version of Reagan. As long as the nominee isn’t Ron Paul or Newt Gringrich, either of whom would both be political suicide, I’m content.
