SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Authorities said they removed nearly 80,000 rounds of ammunition from the home of a South Bend man who warned that the world was going to end.
South Bend police and federal agents blocked off streets around Kevin Rieder's home for six hours Wednesday while they removed the ammunition.
Rieder, 38, was arrested Wednesday and charged with illegal possession of ammunition while subject to a restraining order, Assistant U.S. Attorney Donald Schmidt said.
The restraining order had been taken out by an ex-girlfriend, Schmidt said.
Rieder told employees at a gun shop where he bought 18,000 rounds that he believed the world was going to end, officials said.
He was in custody Friday morning, awaiting a Tuesday bail and detention hearing.
Not only divorces. First there are temporary and perminent restraining orders. Temporaries have not proved anything because it hasn’t been reviewed by a court yet.
Restraining orders are used in a variety of contexts, including employment disputes, copyright infringement, and cases of harassment, domestic abuse, and stalking.
Second, a temporary can be in place for months while waiting for a court date. So, if a R.O. can now disarm a person unjustly, this is open for abuse by anti gun activists.
Third, if anyone was really a threat, commitment papers can be obtained immediately.
I told the chief that we were discussing this on the Internet. Do you think it’s possible that he would have gone out of his way to locate such a broadly applicable answer? If so, I may owe the man a lunch.

An old Marine doesn’ know squat about shotguns. I bought them to help him and I have 11 acres with lots of doves. They are a set of the sporting models. The .410 is mine soon, but it has been shot maybe 5 rounds. Where do I look for the choke?

The choke is the constriction in the barrel that controls the density of the shot pattern. Screw in chokes are at the muzzle end. If not, it has a fixed choke (they stopped making these in the mid-late 80’s). Choke names, from most open are Cylinder, Skeet, Improved Cylinder, Modified, Improved Modified, and Full. A more open choke is good for closer targets, where as a full choke is good for trap, turkey, and waterfowl.
NRA lawyers actually work a 2nd Amendment case? Surely you jest. NRA laywers have absolutely nothing to do with actual court cases of any kind, and 2nd Amendment cases are like poison to them.
Heck, the NRA even tried to dissuade the plaintiffs in the Parker case.

Actually the TRO need not specifically forbid the possession of arms, it's in the law, the Lautenberg amendment to be precise. I've never heard that Lautenberg applies to ammunition as well. With no guns, what are you going to do, throw it at her (or him, the law applies to women too if they have the TRO against them).
Oh, for the love of Pete. If you’re going to stockpile ammunition, do not buy 18,000 rounds at a time and then talk to the clerk about armageddon. Am I all alone here?
Similarly, when you’re pumping gasoline into a can so you can fuel your lawnmower, you shouldn’t shout “Allahu akhbar!” for no apparent reason. Don’t wear a vest full of modeling clay with wires sticking out of it to the airport or, for that matter, anywhere. Don’t buy a shotgun, a sack of lime, a tarp and a shovel at a Wal-Mart at 3 am. The more I live and learn, the more I come to believe that the phrase “common sense” is adjective abuse. It’s nowhere near as common as we would like to believe.

So, what’s happened to the ammo?
Well, it's coming to a collectivist dictatorship and another Sodom and Gomorrah for two things. And it only goes downhill from there.
That was the basis for the arrest of Emerson in TX, the well known case which went to the 5th circuit court where his conviction for possessing a gun while under a restraining order was upheld.
The reason it became well known is that although Emerson's conviction was upheld, the New Orleans circuit court's decision also found that the 2nd Amendment guarantees an individual right to keep and bear arms, a decision that goes against previous decisions by most of the other circuits which have ruled that it only guarantees the right of the states to arm a militia.
