Good idea. My 1984 Mercedes 300D diesel cost $100 almost three years ago and is running fine.

My younger and much richer cousin got stuck with a late 1970s Toyota.
After about 2 decades of service, and seeing the darned thing wouldn’t die...
he simply rolled it into a river to get rid of it.

Sure, not the best disposal method, but I guess it seemed like a good
idea to him at the time.

Yep! I’ve been doing that my whole life. Two requirements: Change the oil every 3,000 miles and buy a good solid American car.

Lifetime -
1.25 million miles in 7 GM vehicles
Average life - 13.7 years
(Not counting my new ‘07 Pontiac GP GXP.)

1996 Jeep Cherokee still going strong, paid for, $50/month insurance, and no plans for a new vehicle.

I’m driving a 1995 Honda Accord with 200,000 miles on it. I wonder how long that will last?

I bought a 1992 mazda pickup with 148,000 miles on it in 2001 for $1400. It’s been a trusty backup vehicle for a long time now and approaching 200,000miles. A month after I bought it, it got dented by hail and the insurance company sent me a $1200 check. It still runs strong and has never had anything but the clutch and U-joints worked on. It is starting to get rusty though. I’ve got my money’s worth.

Around my modest rural town, all I see are bright, shiny new SUVs that I know folks have a hard time affording. I guess they use the equity in their homes... I try to get 200K out of every vehicle.
