True. We should simply abolish FEMA. Socialized charity is even less effective than socialism in general. FEMA provides a great excuse for people to do nothing - “we’re waiting on FEMA.”
15,000 divided by 5 is 3,000.
Pretty simple, or just use a calculator to get the same result. Were you somehow under the impression that the number would be much larger?
Does your expectation of federal assistance mean that Louisiana is going to pay the compound interest that is owed for the “fair share” of reconstruction for the disasters that hit San Francisco and Chicago a century ago?
Interesting question. The rules were different in those days weren’t they? By that I mean that the Feds were not the all-consuming, all-powerful entity that it is today. The citizens by and large kept almost all of what they saved and earned. Most of the government money in those days were in the hands of the local and state governments. This means that according to the rules of that time, that’s who footed the bill. Had New Orleans been wiped out in 1906, it too would have to foot it’s own recovery. I’d gladly return to those days as I’m sure most on this site would. Not going to happen. The rules of today apply to the disasters of today.
The squatters that didn’t have the aptitude back then wouldn’t be able to rebuild there own lives would then be forced to squat elsewhere.
What luck, seems to be the case for many so called refugees of today. Unfortunately those problems are thrown in others laps, luckily the majority of those people found themselves in a place where that crap isn’t tolerated as easily as others.
Now if only we could cut the funding for the out of state squatters then we could see what happens then maybe we could get some productive things going again.
