Maybe the N-test part is more sensationalism than fact,but Eisenhower & Kennedy weren’t averse to India taking a militarily sound position against the Chinese.There are reports than Ike was willing to part with N-tech,but Chacha Nehru wasn’t interested.Too bad that it took the Chinese invasion to convince him.That being said,it has been written that,after the invasion,Nehru ordered initial research into a nuclear weapons capability.
