Yes, they can. Based on behavior of other Arabs.
I’ve been singled out for being an American Serviceman when I lived in Germany. People had certain expectations due to bad behavior of some of my peers.
I also was singled out as an Air Force NCO deployed with Army SF. Their opinion of Air Force was really bad!
In both situations I made it my responsibility to change the perception with my attitude and behavior. Most of the time I was successful!
Of course I didn’t have the opportunity to sue anybody.
Since I returned frpm Viet Nam we have had many fellow citizens “assume” we were PTSD laden victims walking around with a hair trigger ready to explode at any given moment.
No one’s ever had a problem “assuming” that about Veterans.
If they can view us and be afraid of us, when all we wished to do was get on with our lives, Muslims need to understand the fear we currently have.
Until they take a stand, and I mean all of them, not just a few like these 7, what else could they expect? Being aware and somewhat fearful has kept many a person alive to tell tales of the experience later.
