Poor people only get poor lawyers. The rich receive superior legal care. Shouldn’t everyone have equal access to equal legal care? For years the poor had access to Free Care clinics. If that was good enough there wouldn’t be a push for socialized medicine, would there?

He’s talking about the FedGov providing legal service, not a local PD appointing one.
The local PD doesn’t appoint lawyers for those who can’ty afford them. The courts do. If it’s a Federal case, then the Federal gubmint appoints the lawyer.
In any event, it’s a moot point. Having a lawyer represent you in a criminal case in a right. A lot of folks will now stand up and say, “Healthcare isn’t a right.”
No because the purpose of local government is to see to it that you are guilty of some offense that you can be fined for as a means of paying taxes without calling them taxes.
Universal Legal Care would mean the government paying someone to keep you from paying the government. Not gon’ happen.

Everybody should get free attorneys for lawsuits *and* free attorneys for defending against lawsuits. What could go wrong?
