Email |Print | Reprints [-] Text [+] SHANGHAI (Reuters) - Starbucks Corp (SBUX.O: Quote, Profile, Research), the world's biggest coffee-shop chain, said it planned to source coffee from China for the first time as it expands in a country with more than 5,000 years of tea-drinking culture.
Starbucks has been working with coffee farmers in China's southwestern Yunnan province to help them meet sourcing standards and has sent coffee shipments to the United States for testing, Starbucks China President Wang Jinlong said at the Reuters China Century Summit on Tuesday.
"China does produce some quality coffee," Wang said at the summit, held at the Reuters office in Shanghai.
He added that sourcing coffee from China would start "very soon, maybe in a couple of years".

Freepers to source coffee from place other than Starbucks ...
Don’t be drinkin’ that chinee crap....
I never liked the taste of Starbucks.
But I’ll pass this story on.
Yeah, when you can sort it from the crap that will kill you.
Imagine: Coffee grown in sewage and fertilized by human feces... for that "tangy" flavor?
I thought the idea was to kill the competition, not the customers.
so maybe they are just going to offer a ‘China’ blend, like they do so many others? Prefer South American anyway.
A leaded blend, perhaps?
Now Starbucks’ high test will have lead added.
super strong!
No, Starbucks green beans will be processed and roasted in China and sent back here, thats what this means.
uh oh
Is “source” a verb like “summer?”
Can you imagine what solvents they will use in their decaf?
“China” & “standards” being used in the same sentence. LOL.
If they call the brand “Black and White,” we’ll KNOW it passed through the digestive system of a panda. Hey, if South America can do it, why not the Chinese?
If you add antifreeze, it will be sweeter.
AHH,Wonderful! No more Starbucks for me,EVER! Spent time working over there. When they say organically grown, they mean it. They use raw sewerage to fertilize their crops, and surely coffee beans get the same tender loving touch. Organically Grown, sounds so environmentally pure doesnt it, but its raw sewage, thats why the darkest green circles are just outside the cities and then lighter and lighter hues of green.Sure it will healthy, at least as good as the toys.
