A day in the life of President Bush (photos) 9-4-2007
White House and other sources ^ | September 4, 2007

Posted on 09/04/2007 6:43:47 PM PDT by Kaslin

After his surprise trip to Iraq yesterday where he met with the troops in Anbar Province President Bush flew to Sidney, Australia to attend the APEC summit

Today President Bush commended the Senate for confirming Jim Nussle as OMB Director

I thank the Senate for its strong bipartisan vote confirming Jim Nussle as Director of the Office of Management and Budget.

Jim's confirmation comes at a critical time for our Nation's budget as Congress considers this year's annual spending bills. With less than a month until the new fiscal year begins, Congress has not sent any of the twelve appropriations bills to my desk. We must work together quickly to get the people's work done on time. Jim is a strong advocate for fiscal discipline and pro-growth economic policies, and he will help lead efforts to balance the budget by 2012 by restraining federal spending and keeping taxes low. And as OMB Director, he will work to provide transparency regarding federal spending and earmarks, strong accountability in government, and better results for taxpayers. I congratulate Jim and his family on today's confirmation and thank him for his continued service to our Nation.

Statement by the President

President George W. Bush today announced that he has named Barry Jackson as Assistant to the President for Strategic Initiatives and External Affairs. Mr. Jackson will be responsible for managing the White House offices of Political Affairs, Public Liaison, Intergovernmental Affairs, and Strategic Initiatives.

Since 2002, Mr. Jackson has served as Deputy Assistant to the President and Deputy to the Senior Advisor. Prior to this, he served as Deputy Assistant to the President and Director of Strategic Initiatives. During his tenure, he has been responsible for facilitating coordination between the White House and external coalitions on major Presidential initiatives.

"Barry is a capable and trusted advisor who is widely respected for his sound judgment and strong ability to build consensus around initiatives that are important to all Americans," President Bush said. "Throughout my Administration, I have valued his advice and leadership. I appreciate his continued service."

Prior to joining the Administration, Mr. Jackson served as Chief of Staff to Congressman John Boehner and Executive Director of the House Republican Conference. He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Iowa.

G’day everyone! Your local Bushbot reporting ...
Happy to report that President Bush has arrived safely in Sydney.
I sat up last night and watched on cable tv Air Force One arriving. That was rather amusing as the commentators had no idea if the plane was AF1 or the replica that had landed at 10:27pm....They were still debating whether it was AF1 meanwhile the plane was taxiing towards the VIP area rather quickly. Then the doors opened and minutes later the President bounded down the steps! Oh yeah ...that is AF1!
It was interesting for me to see live on TV how it is all done to get the President de-planed, through the meet-and-greet then into his limo. It was all very quick!
Prime Minister Howard did not meet the President at the airport last night; he was busy at our football (rugby league) player of the year awards and made an amusing aside that he hoped that his friend would understand that football takes prescedence over official visits. Howard does love football; he supports St George Illawarra - they have had a frightful year and so has the PM. Not long until election time for him and it will probably be his last hurrah.
The President is staying at one of the finest hotels in Sydney not far from the Sydney Opera House; that’s where all the APEC meetings will take place. What a venue! I hope the weather holds even though it has been forescast to rain until Saturday. Boo! Hiss!
President Bush and PM Howard have met this morning and are holding a joint presser (even as I write) which includes local lunatic media.
Speaking of lunatics...yes, rent-a-crowd are out in force with the predictable chants, slogans ... blah, blah. Fortunately they will kept well away from the President and left to rant in the pouring rain (tee hee).
PB has a busy schedule whilst he is town and there will be plenty of photo ops in some of the city’s most spectacular places. I hope he gets to have a little local exposure as the majority of us folks and fauna are really quite friendly!
Local web sites that have coverage of APEC include:

http://www.smh.com.au
http://www.news.com.au/dailytelegraph

I can’t guarantee you journalistic integrity (is that an oxymoron?) on the sites but at least the pix will be good!
I’ll keep y’all posted.....

MUST READ . . .

COMING TOGETHER IN ANBAR PROVINCE
By INVESTOR’S BUSINESS DAILY

Iraq War: With the arrival of the commander-in-chief in Iraq’s once-forbidden Anbar province, the surge is now complete. The two most powerful boots in the world are on the ground, and they aren’t running away.

Democrats in Congress will call it a stunt, a photo op. But the surprise visit by President Bush to Al-Asad Air Base in a remote part of Anbar province was a visible sign of the progress made in Iraq.

It also was intended to send multiple messages — to Democrats ready to cut and run, to Iraqi politicians unable to get their act together and to jihadists waiting for America once again to quit.

To the Democrats waiting for the report from Gen. David Petraeus and Ambassador Ryan Crocker, Bush has provided a stunning visual aid. The leader who was called a cowboy has tamed the wild, wild west of Iraq. The cavalry has arrived.

EXCERPTS FROM “DEAD CERTAIN” . . .
[Note: I purchased the book today and am reading it as fast as possible . . . At this point (a third of the way thru) I can state with almost certainty that Draper, the book’s author, is a Democrat (although not rabidly so) who is actually attempting to be fair (at least from a Democrat’s perspective) . . . For the most part, he permits his narrative to advance on the basis of EXTENSIVE quotes from the ‘main characters’ . . . Our President reveals himself to be the courageous, visionary, steadfast, man of character we all know him to be . . . Of course, Draper can’t help but add an editorial ‘snark’ here and there (he is, after all, a Democrat . . . AND a man who wants to be respected in the Democrat-controlled worlds of media and publishing) . . . Over all, however, I’m enjoying the book . . . so far . . . I’ll keep you posted.]

Thanks for the dose tonight Kaslin.

Eric Draper has taken a lot of wonderful pictures of the president over the years. He’s very good at what he does.
