An exodus unprecedented in modern times, coupled with a record influx of foreigners is threatening to erode the character of the land that served as the cradle for much of American thought, law and culture. Between June 2005 and June 2006 nearly 200,000 British citizens chose to leave the country. During the same period, at least 574,000 immigrants came to Britain. This number does not include the people who broke the law to get there, or the thousands unknown to the government. Britons give many reasons for leaving, but their stories share one commonality: life in Britain has become unbearable for them. They fear lawlessness and the threat of terrorism from a growing Muslim population and the loss of a sense of Britishness, exacerbated by the growing refusal of schools to teach the history and culture of the nation to the next generation. Hundreds of thousands of asylum seekers are about to be granted "amnesty." The approach is similar to that pursued by President Bush, who failed to get approval for his amnesty plan. In Britain it's likely to succeed and migrants will be granted many benefits. When one factors in the high number of abortions (one in five pregnancies are aborted in England and Wales), the high birth rates of immigrants (15 times those of white Britons), it doesn't take a population expert to predict the days of the England we have known may be numbered.

The “history” that is being taught in many schools here in the U.S. is pretty anti-Western, from what I can tell.

I am a fourth generation American, my ancestors having emigrating from England. There is a lot a like about the British and lot I don’t like. I loved Churchill, and now we find out Churchill and his legacy are being denied in the history being taught to UK school children. That indicates to me they have gone a down the final road to ruin.
All without anyone asking the British people how the hell they feel about it.
Sorta like US.

I think it is interesting how few it takes to make people feel threatened. 3% foreigners seems to be the max.

The country is embracing socialism or the gov't has disarmed the law abiding citizens or the crime rate has increased and they have no way of defending themselves or the millions of spy cameras everywhere...

The reaction I received from our Fellow Freeper audience across the pond was so ludicrously defensive and wrought with denial of the obvious lessons of history, that I was stunned.
And, the vitriol was palpable — and pathetically shameful.

The last words in the article are these: “The greater tragedy is that the people of Britain have little say in any of this, so they are taking the road of last resort. They are leaving.” My guess is this means that the highest echelon politicians are imposing this by administrative - not democratic - means. I know this is done routinely in France but I don’t know that much about the parliamentary system in Britain to be sure(?)
Be careful what you wish for, you might get it. I used to wish I could know exactly what caused the Roman Empire to fall. Now, I am seeing Western Civilization commit suicide before my very eyes. The international communist are winning. Nikita Khrushchev could not have forged a better plan to destroy the west than foisted on us by enemies within. Indeed, we are selling them the rope they are hanging us with.
How terrible to watch the death of the west live and in real time.
I think PC is getting us too. I see too many similarities in their system with ours. We’re not that far gone yet but I hope their present is not our future.

Britain is only just a step behind us.
My ancestors came from the British isles too, but I think they may be past the point of no return. I only hope we notice their errors and learn something - I see too many disturbing similarities. As Santayana famously said, “Those who don’t remember the past are condemned to relive it.”
