Germans Arrest 3, Thwart "Imminent Threat"

Three men have been arrested for planning attacks on Frankfurt's international airport and the U.S. military base in Ramstein, the German Defense Minister said Wednesday.

"There was an imminent threat," Franz Josef Jung told Germany's ARD broadcaster. He declined to elaborate.

Two of the suspects had German citizenship while the third was Pakistani, Germany's Sudwestrundfunk public broadcaster said.

German federal prosecutors said they had arrested three suspected members of "an Islamic motivated terrorist organization." It was not immediately clear whether the three were suspected of having links to al Qaeda.

Sudwestrundfunk said the men were arrested Tuesday evening and were close to carrying out the attacks. German and U.S. officials have warned of the possibility of a terrorist attack, and security measures have been raised, they said.

Quoting security sources in Berlin, SWR public radio reported that two German nationals and a Pakistani had been planning to bomb the international airport in Frankfurt, and the US military base at Ramstein in western Germany.

Plans to carry out an attack were allegedly well-advanced.

Referring to “an imminent threat,” Defense Minister Franz Josef Jung confirmed the arrests later on public broadcaster ARD, but refused to go into detail.

“The security services have done a very good job and I can’t say anything more at this point,” he said.

The Federal Prosecutor’s Office in Karlsruhe has also confirmed the arrests, stating that the three detainees are believed to be members of an Islamist terrorist cell.

“Raids have taken place in several German states,” the official added.””

One thing I have recently noticed when cruising DU to compare the takes on stories between here and there is this. When commenting on the same stories dealing with foiled plots anywhere in the world they will often put things like the phrase immenent threat in quotation marks, but for a completely different reason. It is done to show contempt and to mock the idea that the U.S. or any other country is really threatened. The comments, as you might expect, lean toward any threat as having been manufactured by government(s) to keep the publics attention of important issues like universal health care and other progressive habits. LOL! Just the usual proof that they do not get it, and never will.

I live and work in the German state of Hessen (at a military base not mentioned in the article). I've been told that the crime rate is very low due to the sometimes aggressive tactics of the German police (polizei) which would be considered police brutality in the U.S. I'm all for harsh treatment of criminals.

As for 9/11/01; it is a reminder of 1 jihad attack.
