Options on Iran
September 05, 2007
The Washington Times
Editorial
With the Islamist regime in Tehran making clear that it has no intention of complying with U.N. Security Council resolutions on its nuclear weapons program, U.S. policy-makers appear to have yet come up with a clear response (judging from the public record.) Every major American politician, whether Democrat or Republican, says that Iran cannot be allowed to obtain nuclear weapons.
President Bush last week stated the case with more urgency than anyone else, describing Iran's actions in Iraq as "murderous" and warning that Iran's pursuit of nuclear weapons technology "threatens to put a region already known for instability and violence under the shadow of a nuclear holocaust."
Washington seemingly has three main options for stopping Tehran's efforts: 1) hoping a popular revolution would drive the current regime from power before it develops atomic weapons; 2) persuading Europe and Japan to deny credit to the Iranian government and support sustained economic sanctions against the government; or 3) using military force to destroy Iranian nuclear facilities and/or remove the current regime from power.
There are huge problems with each of these alternatives. For U.S. policy-makers, the preferable alternative would be a popular revolution, in which the Iranians overthrew a despotic regime.

This Administration has to accept that bringing down the Iranian regime is the solution to the nuke situation, Iraq, Lebanon, and the WOT in general.
If the regime is not overthrown, we will continue to fight them for years to come.
#1 = BOMB
There’s a #2 ?????????
“This Administration has to accept that bringing down the Iranian regime is the solution to the nuke situation, Iraq, Lebanon, and the WOT in general.

You are absolutely right. Iran is the head of the snake. Thank you Jimmy Carter.
The choice seemingly to be the most popular these days is to talk tough about Iran and then change the subject.
This Congress will not make a decision concerning Iran unless it is to their personnal benefit. They are a bunch of cowards. I sure hope we get a war time President at the next election. Replace most of our Congressmen/women and get real Americans in office.
Iran may be the fangs, but the Sauds are the head.
We can destroy their economy, their centrifuges, their communications, their utilities. All the while, dropping millions of leaflets and making broadcasts speaking directly to the Iranian population.
They will respond with terrorism. We respond back with more punishing raids. We will win that exchange.
That narrows the choices down to Hunter (who probably doesn't have a chance) and Rudy.
We should take the Iranian President, give him plastic surgery to look more like a goat than he does now, then release him back to the population where he will be mistaken for one of their more attractive women and kept to busy to make trouble in the world.
to = too
I think Fred would do right by this country. Especially if he had Newt as his Vice-President.
“Punitive raids. We have an air power capability that is second only to the wrath of God.”
Unless you or Duncan Hunter become president, it wont happen. That is, unless we’re attacked by some guys directly linked to the Iranian regime. I can’t imagine what else they’d have to do to earn our bombs.
#1 Bomb them for 14 days
#2 Bomb them for 2 weeks
#3 Bomb them for 1 week and 7 days
#4 All of the above
“(who probably doesn’t have a chance)”
If all the people who said, “I like Hunter but he doesn’t have a chance” would support him, he’d win easily.
” to look more like a goat than he does now, then release him back to the population where he will be mistaken for one of their more attractive women “
You obviously haven’t seen many Iranian women. In general, they are probably some of the most beautiful women in the world.
1. Elect Duncan Hunter in 2008.
2. Iran problem gets solved.
So do I have your vote? ;-)
Blockade.
I’ve been a blockade proponent too
